I wanted Porter drafted back in 2023 on draft night. I think Joey Porter Jr. would be a significant asset to our dreadful secondary. He's the type of physical, man CB Campbell and Sheppard line too for their secondary. However, I simply don't believe the Lions are acquiring Joey Porter Jr. Short of someone going full Tanya Harding on him to his knee, and him coming at a huge discount because he is injured, he will not be a Detroit Lion. Porter will cost too much draft capital to trade for and will cost too much cap space to resign. The Lions had the chance to draft Porter Jr. a few years ago and passed on him twice knowing they needed a CB. Furthermore, it has never been and never will be Holmes' MO to make a major acquisition via trade. An older Za'Darius Smith, on a te4am friendly, short term veterans contract, was the lone major move Holmes made during the season. Furthermore, Holmes usually makes one larger, splashier move during the season and he made that this year with the signing of Cade Mays. This isn't in Holmes wheelhouse to make a move like this, it's just not who he is as a GM. I spent a year and a half begging for Brad Holmes and the Lions to make a splash addition and trade for or sign Trey Hendrickson. I'm not going to waste my time or anyone else's having a daily or weekly discussion on why we should acquire Joey Porter Jr. I'd love to have him here. I'd be willing to offer up future, high round draft capital, possibly a 2nd round plus additional picks to get him. It's all moot though because Brad Holmes won't do it. The money we freed up is going to Branch and LaPorta. He could and should have named Horcoff Interim GM earlier, but I understand Chris’s point that the Wings were atop the NHL standings for most of the year and it seemed that the playoff drought was going to end.
