I think the sports media (broadly) is prone to reporting rumors and deals/players offers that are not close to firm…and that is both to have content to churn out and because people eat it up. IMO we seldom know all the deals that were actually proposed, or how serious things got, such as counter proposals. For trades of free agents.

Complete speculation by me, but I feel like they likely would have traded Cossa even without Augustine and Postava in Grand Rapids. The fact that they didn't give him any NHL run makes me believe they didn't think he was an NHL caliber goalie, and the Red Wings probably would have been stoked to get a first round pick for Cossa either way. Especially before they were forced to show him off against NHL shooters. The goalie depth is just a nice bonus after their inability to develop (or accurately asses) Cossa. I'm really interested to see how Cossa does in Utah after Detroit's unwillingness to give him some games. I still think there's a good goalie in there. The goalie coaching down in Grand Rapids seems like it is top notch so it may not be likely he turns into an above average starter if they didn't completely screw up their evaluation of him. It does seem like he still has stuff to work on in his game. Maybe having a lighter load in the NHL next season will help him since he faded at the end of these last two seasons.

Anderson was the right guy for that situation. We were not going to use Holton or Sommers to face that mainly right-handed lineup, we'd already used Finnegan, and we had plans to use Waguespack later. Anderson plunked a couple guys and that sucks, got he unlucky on the error, which should have ended the inning, but he still came out of it with only a hit, no walks, and two strikeouts on the A's, plus he had a five-run lead. Not saying you here, necessarily, but any implication that Hinch was happy to gamble away the game by keeping Anderson in for the whole inning would be at best a misunderstanding of the situation. Overall, Anderson has performed as advertised. He strikes out guys better than anyone else on the team, keeps walks in check, and keeps the ball on the ground when it's hit. On balance, I've been happy with him.

he had a terrible slump at the beginning of May, apart from that he's near his career averages, but he's K'g too much. He'll have a good AB then next time up he'll be back to taking strikes and swinging OOZ. If he'd swing at more of what he could hit and less of what he can't he'd be a different player. The Tigers really are quite lucky that their outlier injury situation corresponded to an outlier season in the AL overall, where only three good teams are having success. Outside of the top 3, it really is quite tight. Compare this to the NL, where five teams are above 75% and the next team is at 40%. It can be tough to reconcile the odds with what the standings show from a games behind standpoint at this point of the season. That’s going to be the tough part when we get to the end of July.

That would be a disaster. I'm not a big Duren fan but to lose your 23 year old starting center who put up 19 and 10 for nothing would be a gross mismanagement of assets. You don't overpay him either but I'm sure there's a middle ground in the $30-35m/yr range on a long term deal or the still possible sign and trade scenario. You do not in any way settle for a QO then lose him for nothing and on top of it likely create issues in the locker room in a lame duck season.

His band is tight and the show is very energetic and entertaining. I was going to see him Friday but forgot we were going out of town.

They might be able to cash in with some kind of rally cap for that.

Jesus, I remember that. Just ... wow.

Some of my "worst" would be simply ones my wife dragged me to but I don't count those because I drag her to shows too. But for "normal" shows the worst performance would have been Motley Crue a few years ago at Comerica Park. They shared billing with Def Leppard and Poison and Joan Jett. They were all awesome as could be at their age. But Motley Crue had sound issues beyond just walking and mumbling through. I could barely tell what song was playing. Poison was awesome because Bret Michaels knew where he was, he engaged with the audience, talked about playing St. Andrews and Harpo's and filming a video at Joe Louis. Jesus... Harpo's. I went once around 1995 and a friend got beat up and was hospitalized.

Best concert, hands down, was Prince in 2004. And what bugs me about it is I had no expectations. For me Prince was the guy from the 80s and 90's who had some songs I liked but I didn't appreciate him like I do now. I wish I could go back and anticipate it and I would also have not had anything to drink. But yeah... he was ****ing awesome.
