berhalter comes into the game, immediately gives the ball away and then almost gives away a penalty.

Berhalter is so bad, I have absolutely no idea why he is on the squad.

I mean, at least Luna can give you some vibes and aggression off the bench. I am hoping Poch realized Berhalter should not see the field moving forward.

When creating seasons for my soccer game I learned that Messi wasn't necessarily the world's greatest PK taker of all time. He's not bad. He's just average. Transfermrkt has him at 116 made and 33 missed, or at a 77.8% success rate which is about average for most league seasons. But, gosh, that's a lot of PK attempts. It looks like this is updated right to yesterday's PK.

2 goals for Ronaldo today. Albeit against Uzbekistan. Good chance that either Portugal or Colombia will end up in Vancouver for the round of 16 game.

Ronaldo will crow as if he's scored in the champions league final.

To be fair, the entire world was crapping on him after the first game

I keep asking Anna for my hydration during the hydration break during the World Cup. I haven't received any yet.

With the games being played in the States, during hydration breaks the players are probably being brought large pitchers of ice water by a smiling waitress in a white t shirt and offered refills every minute.  If the World Cup was in Europe they’d have a room temperature thimble size glass of water spilled on you by a surly waiter.

I'm getting used to them just watching the games on TV. It's nice to jump up for a minute or two and get something to snack on, something to drink, maybe hitting the bathroom or getting something you want in the room to maybe help with another project you are doing while watching, but don't get because your primary objective is to watch the game.

Huge 2nd half coming up for Canada. If they can hold on to this 0-0 tie against Switzerland they’ll win the group and Vancouver will host a round of 32 game against a 3rd place team and potentially the round of 16 game against likely Colombia or Portugal.

I was at work so I couldn't watch Canada's game against Switzerland. But it sounds like they dropped an egg. Did they really have any good scoring chances to tie it up after they got it to 2-1?

South Africa beating Korea was pretty entertaining last night. Kind of flip-flopped between the games and ended up watching a lot more of that game than Mexico-Czechia once Mexico took a lead.

Of course I'd love to see the US win tonight, but the key today is rotating some players in, making sure people remain healthy (we have nine players who have played at least 160 minutes, but one being Freese) and keep the yellow card holders safe for the round of 32. If Pulisic can play even 15 minutes at the end would be an encouraging sign going to the round of 32 as well. That would at least show us he's healthy moving forward.

That said, it would be pretty awful seeing the US drop a game by some silly 3-0 margin. Win if you can, a draw won't upset anyone, but if you lose just don't throw down a complete stink bomb. It would be nice thinking this squad had some solid depth, but I guess that will be tested tonight.

Canada had a few good chances after making it 2-1 in the 75th minute, but none of the “how did that not go in” variety. 2-1 loss was a fair result, Swiss turned it on when they had to right after halftime to win the game. South Africa is not only a more winnable matchup for Canada then South Korea would have been, but it likely will be a more favourable matchup than group winner Switzerland will get. Sucks that there’ll be no Canada games in Vancouver though.

That was a buzz kill ending

Three goals. Two on two shots on frame at one time. Looking like a bad AYSO team on defense during the final goal.

A lot of these players won't be playing on Wednesday, but the defense was the concern entering the World Cup and that didn't make anyone feel better.  Compounding matters, we don't have a keeper that can steal one for the team either.

Oh well, it was entertaining. At least it didn't change anything.

The US backup team isnt any good.  who knew?

the larger issue remains for the first team unit: their defense has yet to be tested by a decent team.  when they encounter a team that can pass through - or over - their press, and get to that defense, how will the US handle it?

Fortunately for the US, it looks like they arent going to face such a team until the quarterfinals.

Norway spent the past two weeks digging into their Viking warrior past only to roll over and not even try to beat France today for the group.   Sad and pathetic that they have a chance to win the group and instead puss out.
