I'm not sure of the splits but he just has a better chance of getting a hit than Jones does. And at least Kerry can play defense a little bit. If Hinch wants to manage using splits, maybe he should look at Torkelson against RH pitching? Quote

Jones is terrible this year though, so I like the idea of finding someone better than Jones. Maybe, next year platoon Keith and Torkelson at first base and find a better right-handed outfielder. That is about at least two years of plate appearances versus LHP before we find we out whether Carpenter can hit lefties. What if he doesn't get better? Then you wasted two years trying to find out something that they already thought would happen. And then maybe he spends so much effort learning to hit LHP that he messes up his approach versus RHP. Why don't they give Gage Workman 500 at bats to find out if he can hit MLB pitching? Because they know either from scouting or from underlying metrics that he probably won't. Same with Carpenter versus LHP. Quote

Inexcusable for it jump by 25% in what should be his peak production years. 1 Quote

Using Keith at 1st base would be a huge mistake, IMO. Put him at 3rd base and leave him alone. Same with Mcgonigle, leave him at SS and allow him to learn the position the best he can. The Tigers defense sucks and I wonder if it's because Hinch loves miving guys around so much. Not every player is a good utility player. As for Tork, I wonder if we can find someone better at defense and more consistent at the plate for around the same money? There's a point where a team has to cut it's losses. Quote

Totally serious question. His hard hit, barrel and sweet spot are all better than last season. It's like he's guessing (wrong) more and thus whiffing more, but hitting the balls he guesses right about the same. If anything his BaBIP luck is a bit below average so far. Which could go back to your speculation that he's not seeing the ball well enough to adjust. Or the swing has just gotten too big chasing power, which he's not producing more of anyway. Quote
