DTroppens Posted August 24 Posted August 24 My adopted EPL teams are West Bromwich Albion and Hull City (probably in that order). It has been years since I had any real interest in the EPL considering those teams haven't been in the top division in a long time. Heck, I thought WBA was going to get relegated from the Championship last season. It was a pleasant surprise when Hull was promoted. The first game I had a real vested interest in the EPL was last weekend when Hull began its campaign with a home game against Manchester United. And what happened? A 2-0 Hull win. I'm sure it will be a challenge to stay up, but that's three out of 40 points needed to stay in the EPL. That's a good start. Plus, I have my own soccer game and we have a facebook page. A few of them are ManU fans. It was a little bit of fun posting about the game from the Hull perspective. Didn't rub it in. I knew it was a sensitive day for the MU clan. I'm enjoying the WBA start to this season. Two nice wins, and one of three with six points right now. Maybe they can put all of last year behind them and make a reasonable run for a promotion spot. BTW, for those that don't know, England has changed the format to the Championship playoff. The top eight teams will be in the playoff. So if it felt like teams jumped from 22nd to threatening a playoff spot a lot in the past, it's only going to be crazier this season. That's going to create some craziness for certain as teams bounce up and down. Nice to see some Bundesliga games will be on USA this season. That started with the Super Cup this weekend, won by Bayern Munich against my adopted Bundesliga team Borussia Dortmund. The score was 2-1, but Bayern Munich were the better team. Couldn't argue that one much. I am probably the only one in the world, but I do enjoy all the CONCACAF Champions League matches when we hit that portion of the season. I enjoy the Liga MX vs. MLS games. And right now, we have the Liga MX/MLS tournament. I think the quarterfinals start Tuesday or Wednesday. I know I'll be looking for the games. See what excuses they have for the MLS teams losing to Liga MX this time. 🙂 Quote

DTroppens Posted August 27 Author Posted August 27 I wonder if I can ever craft my answers to the point they do select Hull City for me. I'm sure they probably dribble out about 10 of the EPL teams and just ignore the others. Quote
DTroppens Posted August 30 Author Posted August 30 Hull wins again, and is in second in the EPL. I have to take advantage of this. West Bromwich Albion had its first loss, but a 2-0-1 start is still reasonably solid. Oh, and Borussia Dortmund won its first game. Quote
buddha Posted September 25 Posted September 25 as a proud manchester united supporter since eric cantona, i can say i am happy that the premier league finally acknowledged what we all knew: city are cheats. they should treat them like juventus but they wont. the uae will step in and demand the uk do something and the uk will allow city to keep their ill gotten titles and give them a slap on the wrist. but i hold out hope they have more spine than that. i want a 114 point deduction this year, and a transfer ban for a decade. buddha Posted September 25 Posted September 25 everton had ONE violation and got a 6 point deduction. city has 114! give them a 600 point deduction. 1 Quote

A lot of these violations were more than a decade ago, almost 20 years ago. I remember half the talk about any ManCity game back then was when would the hammer drop? It never did. And ManCity wasn't what ManCity is today. Let's see if it actually does this time. Give them a 10 point deduction for the next 17 seasons (the first year of the initial reports). It won't drop them immediately, but with that tarnish, they'd fall eventually because it eventually will kill their talent pool. And then, they'd be nothing we'd have to worry about for more than a decade. Edited September 25 by DTroppens Quote

I do like your style though. Get rid of ManCity. They were rising when I first started watching the EPL and always had bad vibes with that club. Probably my most hated. Ehhh, I don't want to say hated, but most obviously corrupt team in the EPL since I started watching. Their rise was too fast and the expenses were out of control. Everyone knew it, and yet it happened and nothing came out of it in terms of punishment. Quote
DTroppens Posted September 25 Author Posted September 25 I will say this, they probably won't make it out free this time, but until I actually hear an actual penalty, I'm not going to worry about it. How long can we hear this and nothing happens? Oddly, the max points an EPL team can get is 114 points in a season (had to do the math and just realized that), so maybe they get six years of 114 points of deductions. 🙂 Maybe they will get dropped to the lowest tier of professional football (I'd guess we can call that the League level in England) and have to work themselves out of the hole with a point penalty next season as well. Rangers had this happen to them, and I think they are having financial issues again now. I selected Parma as my team in Serie A for no other reason that I used to live in Albion, just a few miles from Parma. They went through administration awhile back, actually had to "recreate" their team organization and work their way back up. They have. Quote

They have. juventus was relegated to serie c for cheating in the calciopoli scandal. send city to league 2. in reality, i dont think they can. the premier league is a separate entity from the other english leagues. man ****ty as a superteam are a new phenomenon in england. theyve been relegated before and were more of a punchline before sportswashing. they have a long history of being the "other" team in manchester. they dont have the same cache of liverpool, united, or arsenal. they will be forgotten. DTroppens Posted September 26 Author Posted September 26 That is true, which makes the fact that there hasn't been any real sanctions or punishments handed on ManCity during the last two decades. This isn't anything new, and has been discussed literally forever. Why would the EPL protect a team that really didn't have that elite status until recently? I created a board game soccer game and the oldest sets I was able to produce with the statistical data I needed were some late 1990 seasons, and back then ManCity wasn't in the Premier League. They actually yo-yoed once or twice in the early 2000s. I'm guessing most American's history about the EPL doesn't go any further than Arsenal's "perfect team." ManCity was just trying to hang on to their EPL status in that era. So why does the EPL protect ManCity so much? I mean, you brought up Everton. I think they are the longest tenured team in the EPL or the top tier (extending beyond the Premier League era). Why wouldn't they be more "protected" than ManCity, who has 17 years of issues on their record? Quote
buddha Posted September 28 Posted September 28 btw, ireland's actions toward israel is a disgrace. international soccer is supposed to bring people together, but ireland chose to tear people a part. but because its ireland and everyone assumes they are good ol' happy go lucky leprechauns, and becausr its jews on the other side, everyone will let it go. ireland - like they were during wwii - are a disgrace. 2 Quote

That happened three years ago and tens of thousands of palestians have been killed in gaza since in retribution. Is there a number in mind to fulfill your bloodlust? Again, let me know how and when the Irish players were protesting judaism, as well. Edited 54 minutes ago by RedTeamGo! Quote
