It seems like the Lions are creating roster space and cap space at the same time with some of their moves.

The Tigers are ranked 14th in market size, having a payroll between 10-15 isn't a stretch. Additionally, we already have the evidence that the fans will fill the stadium if the Tigers are in the mix for the post-season.

Would also be nice if you would refrain from calling opinions you don't agree with stupid.
You are right, I apologize.

According to Spotrac, the league average for team payroll is 147 million for 2024. The Tigers are currently sitting at 92 million. Ownership either needs to be willing to spend money or they need to sell the team. I'm not saying I expect the Tigers to be top 5 in payroll as they were when Mike was chasing a World Series ring, but we should certainly be able to be somewhere in the 10-15 range.
That's kind of stupid. The finances of baseball has changed, money is much tighter due to the cord cutters, which is changing how much income teams get from TV. The NFL rolls along, since they can still demand top dollar, but baseball is an apples-to-oranges comparison to them, since they cannot demand. Teams are going to have to behave like their market size, and be smart about their spending. I think Harris has been very smart, especially with the Colt Keith signing.

I love this, especially if Urshella is still able to provide great defense that he's known for. 3b and SS.

IMO, the Lions would have beat either team last night. Damn. +1200 next year is easy money to win it all.

No such thing. If our society wasn't so mathphobic, so many of its ills the last decade or so wouldn't exist.
Got you. You should know me by now.

Too many graphs; there's too much math here.

James Houston is an erfa, which means he's an exclusive rights free agent. He'll get a one year deal.

It seems how publications value McGonigle affects our overall rating. Some value him very high and others very little at all.
The big question is whether he's a shortstop.

Free agency is very deep at corner this year. Jaylon Johnson, L'Jarius Sneed, and Kendall Fuller could be signed and instantly be the CB1 on this team, and there are probably a dozen guys who could be signed to be CB2 across from Sutton (who will have hopefully figured it the **** out again by August).
Given the goal next year is a Super Bowl, I don't think they will take a corner at #29, unless one of the top ones fall. Corners more often than not need time to develop (even more so than linebackers). I think they might take an heir apparent in the 2nd or 3rd round, but I think it'll be a plug-and-play edge rusher or DT at #29.
I would expect Johnson and Sneed to be franchised.

I would move Henderson to LG, and Robinson to RG. Both need to learn C.

This isn't going to happen, but these are players I like.

It would have been nice if Jerry Green had lived to see the Lions make the Super Bowl. He covered the first 56.
And Curt Sylvester (long time beat for the Freep), and Jerry Green, and Joe Falls.

Sadly, he died on March 23rd. Too bad.

If the Lions think they can get better production from a FA over Josh Reynolds, go for it. Otherwise, I'm sure he would want to stay here with Goff. And our OL knows they're more valuable as a unit than they are individually. I'm sure they would want to stay in Detroit, if we want them. Again, it depends if they think they can get better performance for the same price or not. Something teams need to avoid when they improve is to stay the same. We should always look to be improving.
It's not always black and white like production that determine free agency. He has a value, at a price. I think he'll be an easy sign, like Kalif, and I would expect him to get a contract similar to Kalif.

Jonah is gone, he's going to get a big contract, and the Lions have to pay others.

The athletic had a mock draft up yesterday. Mocks are usually worthless, double so trying to predict what Holmes will do.
That said they had the Lions take T'Vondre Sweat the 360 lbs DT from Texas in the first. And in the second TJ Tampa a CB.
Sweat doesn't make much sense, he's not a three down player. He's a great player, but the Lions have plenty of nose tackles. The Lions pick really low, and I think Holmes will do well, but he has to get a couple of corners, and maybe two guards.

Sorry...
This is probably an inappropriate time but, I just couldn't help myself...
This is my best draft so far using a simulator and a straight up draft rather than crazy trades or anything:
NOTES: I really wanted TJ Tampa as the CB but he keeps getting drafted right before our 2nd rounder, in the mid-2nd.
Both he and Khyree are bigger CB's that excel at tackling as well as being big, fast, rangy, INT-types of CB's. Sort of what the Lions were trying to get with Melifonwu, even if he ended up at Safety instead. They might be a liability against smaller, shiftier inside WR's... but I think they would prevent some of the "burns" we keep receiving on the outside.
Also: Powers-Johnson becomes the top backup at Center and Guard. Covers for Glasgow and especially Ragnow with his bad toe/ injuries. Also, if we don't re-sign Jonah. And Foster and Sorsdal are both guys that can cover OT as well as OG.
I got two edge rushers (Braswell at OLB and Tupuola-Fetui at situational-DE) and an interior rusher (Jenkins) but since I went for Powers-Johnson in the 1st I wasn't in position for Trice or Tuimoloau (an actual bookend-type DE to match with Hutch...) since they are falling into the early 2nd round area so... I went for the next best thing.
And I got the best college kicker in the 7th.
Glasgow and Jonah are both going to be UFA's, so they will need maybe two guards. Josh Reynolds will also be a free agent, so he might have to be replaced. I think cb is their #1 need. They need top talent there to take a lot of snaps next year. I think the top free agent corners will be franchised, so the Lions need to catch that room up with the rest of the team.

Can we get this game going? This has been a long week.

Some teams have so many (Orioles) shortstops in their systems, that they have to move them to 3b and 2b, and suffer with great defense and offense.
