Could a "pro-lifer" please explain why there are no penalties for the fertilizer (and I mean the term both ways).

What's good for the goose should be good for the gander...

I saw this and thought it was a joke.  I looked it up:

Republican legislators in South Carolina have proposed a bill to change the state’s laws, making a fertilised egg or embryo a person and charging a woman who has an abortion with murder, which carries a 30 year prison sentence or the death penalty.1 Henry McMaster, the state’s Republican governor, has said that he would sign anti-abortion regulations.

Lordy...they bring bat**** crazy to new levels.

Once I take my LATG exam, and once daylight only lasts from about 8 am-4 pm, I'm going to need books to read.

I especially like historical (recent reads include The Warmth of Other Suns and Caste: The Origin of Our Discontent), and mysteries. Bonus points for anybody who can recommend a historical fiction mystery that also features cats!

    Thanks in advance!

  3. A few days ago, I was working on an Excel spreadsheet and I noticed two cells had orange vertical marks in the cells.  They looked like something was being flagged.  I tried emptying the contents of  the cells, but the marks didn't go away.  Later, I was trying to print some medical test results, and noticed that the same marks were in the priint preview screen, but when I printed the test, the orange marks didn't print.

I started experimenting and noticed the marks appeared on some programs, but not all.  I Googled the problem, and didn't get any satisfactory suggestions.  I rebooted, but that didn't help.

I wondered when the marks first showed up, so I went upstairs and asked my wife if she had noticed them.  She looked at the screen, thought for a minute, licked her finger, and rubbed out the marks.

    Color me embarrassed.

Good catch. I hadn't been following that.

Even with the loosening if restrictions, teams still have to weigh the AFL assignment of a foreign-born player against the fact that they are going to play winter ball, most likely. Does the team want them getting rest for a month or so, before winter ball, or is the AFL somehow more important than rest.

Thanks for your input, Mark.  Are you and Paul, or separately, considering some resurrection of TigsTown?

  5. With 1 game left, the Tigers are in 6th position pre-lottery.  If they end up 6th, their percentage chance for the number 1 pick is 7.5 percent.  If Texas loses to the Yankees and the Tigers win, the Tigers will move to 7th position and a 5.5 percent chance at number 1.

  6. There was an article in todlay's paper about a new plant (?), or whatever you can call it, coming on line.  It combines a wind farm, a solar farm, and a huge bank of baterries.  Apparently it can produce enough for a small city.  I wonder how it would scale up?

  7. If charging wern't an issue, would you buy an electric car?  My wife and I are retired, and haven't driven farther than 100 miles from our house for many years.  For us, th edecision was "yes."

We charge in our garage overnight, or even less often.  Her car has 250 minles or range and mine has 300.  I can't tell the difference in my electric bill.  Meanwhile, I have no fuel injection, no muffler, no cooling system, transmission, and probably several other things I don't know about.  I have gained a heat pump, but now I have my car producing hot or cool air by the time I get to the end of my driveway.

  8. As has been true most of the season, Washington and Oakland look like a lock for bottom 2 in the standings.  With the latest winning streak, the Tigers have overtaken Pittsburgh, the Reds, and KC.  They are two games behind Miami and Colorado, each with 65 wins to the Tigers 63.  It's not impossible that the Tigers could play their way out of the bottom six.

On a side note, the Tigers, with 63 wins, are now guaranteed  to have fewer than 100 losses.

Someone like Denny McLain, feeding one to the Mick.

I remember that.  Of course, I didn't actually see it.  Very few games were televised then, but I read about it in the newspapaer that day.  As I recall, Mickey waved his bat over the area he wanted the pitch, and McLain grooved it.  Mickey didn't disappoint.
