Anybody know why I'm blacked out in Minnesota? I can watch all the other games that are live

I'm a bit confused by the limited pick off attempts rule. Does that mean if you hit the limit the runner can just go wild because he knows you can't throw over? I'm sure it's more complicated than that

I do like the deal - but more importantly I hope we can help any combo of these younger player acquisitions take their careers forward - development is key they have some ability and are not total free swingers per say like many younger players have been around here recently.
I agree either BAnderson or ERios still could help (IMHO, we need someone to bat 4 or 5 still).
For LHRP, SHarris mentioned it might be someone more on a minor league deal - so maybe DNorris and/or ZBritton? Chaffin would be nice but... I would not think he has too much restriction to get/keep the payroll close to last year. It seems it is hovering in that area?
What do you think is chaffin's asking price, 3/27? And what do you think he'll go for, 2/18?

Not sure the point of a practice that makes such an unrealistic assumption?
I guess it may help you see where the expected holes are

He does. If I remember correctly, it was with a stripper who sued him for oodles of money for child support. I do remember it being a big story back in the day.

Sounds Ike an ex-fiance, unsure of profession. A simple Google search is all the effort I'm willing to put into this

I know he is doing a lot of behind the scenes work, but unless Harris has 3-4 trades lined up, his plan seems to be: 1) crossing his fingers on regression to mean for all the underperforming guys; 2) leaving at-bats available for young guys; and 3) maybe picking up guys from the trash heap who might surprise with 1+ WAR.
this is a strategy that Avila would have been ridiculed for, and rightly so.
What is he supposed to do? He's inherited an organization that is the genesis of that formula. Even if he intends to change it, how much can be done in a year?
They have hardly any areas of strength to trade from aside from a few prospects. Maybe trade away Jobe for someone closer to mlb ready but otherwise I don't see the point in trading a way prospects to turn a 66 win team into a 72 win team.
What kind of trades do you think they should make?
They need to build talent and value from somewhere and since they aren't a current player for free agents they have to be scrappy on the waiver wire, draft, develop and make smart trades of players when they are at their peak value (I'm sure you've noticed there aren't too many players on the current roster that fall into that category).
I'll withhold my frustration for a later date and let Harris have at least a year before I call for his head

Man, DFAing a player in the offseason with options remaining after offering arbitration, short of some legal mess or something precipitating it...
That's Roster Management Amateur Hour.
Who are you referring to?

Correa 13 years $350 million with the Giants. Guess it was worth waiting one year.
In the end, he beat the tigers offer and total value of lindor's contract

Wow, just the other day some speculated that Bogaerts may fetch 200 and instead he almost fetched 300! I always loved him as a player and its hard for me to believe that he is "only" 30 considering I remember him killing us back in our glory days.
What does that say about tatis?

Next question... based on Harris's comments as SoCal pointed out...
How much MLB time do we see in 2023 for Wenceel Perez? Switch-hitting infielder with speed, and some developing power, and no noticeable split variances...
Depends on how many at bats are available in Detroit which obviously depends on which FA they sign, but I'll guess a September call up. He'll have to impress in spring training and tear up the AA/AAA like he did lower levels last year for it to be much quicker.

Verlander to Mets for two years. Only $86 million plus an option.

Back with max, only costing the Mets $86M a year combined

Seems like too high of a base pay but otherwise fine move. Hopefully he can stay healthy and eat some innings at the back of the rotation. I'll be more ok with the move if they sign another reclamation SP to increase the odds one works out

Jose Abreu to the Astros, was gonna say nice to see him out of the division but aren't they changing the scheduling next year so it's more balanced with less divisional games?
https://www.mlb.com/news/2023-mlb-schedule
Yup, still less than though. The tigers will play 13 games against in division and 6 or 7 against out of division AL clubs

the problem is you probably don't get anyone that has had success (at least recently) on a one year deal, which is why I'm guess they may have to settle for something more along the lines of a reclamation project. Of course if Harris isn't very high in Mize long term, then sure, I suppose we could see a bigger signing.
A reclamation project with a history of durability would probably be about as good as it gets

so putting Chris Ilitch aside, about whom none of us really know jack squat, now that the cuts have been made what are we left with:?
Starting Pitching:
ERod, Manning, Turnbull, Wentz, Faedo, Brieske, Alexander, possible Skubal post ASB
Relief Pitching:
Soto, Cisnero, Jimenez, Roni Garcia, Lange, Alexander, Foley, Hill
After one or two are inevetably lost to the DL that should make 13 or so. With Skubal and Mize both likely to be back in '24 any kind of long term starting pitching signing seems a lower priority than other holes but at least one 'prove it in ST" tryout signing also seems inevitable....
Position Players:
C : Haase, Roger - (Seems like a signing is in order here)
1B: Torkelson - (either has to hit or be replaced - can K. Carpenter learn 1st?)
2b: Schoop - (do we trust him to have a comeback yr?)
SS: Baez
3B: Kreidler/Short/Clemens/Ibanez/TBA (Help us Obi-Wan Kanobi, you're our only hope!)
RF: Austin Meadows/TBA
CF: Greene
LF: Baddoo/Haase/Meadows
DH: Cabrera, Carpenter, Haase
So where does it hurt the most? I know most of the focus has been 2B/3B and OF, but I think the power vaccuum at 1B/DH is just as bad. As of now there this no fallback if Torkelson doesn't come around, and enough has been said about Cabrera. It would be a huge help if Carpenter is more than one month flash in the pan.
They need to sign a SP that has had mlb success and can be expected to fill a spot for the whole year. Plus a few AAAA spring training invites.
Relying on they're current crop would result in a lot more drew Hutchison.

I hope they play the market a bit look for someone else bit I could see a few months going by, neither candy or the tigers finding a different situation and they bring him back.

Candy is still one of the best short term 3B options out there; from Freep
Before cutting ties with Candelario, the Tigers attempted to bring him back at a cheaper rate. It’s unclear if those negotiations will continue,
I think he'll be back
