But who else should they have taken? Maybe we are arguing semantics.  Someone earlier used the word “annoying” by comparing it to Baltimore’s 1:1 fortunes  and I agree with that.  You are at the mercy of the players in that draft.  For me to use the word disappointment would mean someone made a poor decision.  I don’t see that here with Tork.

Pitcher Spencer Strider went to Atlanta in the 4th round. None of the top 10 picks in the 2020 draft have really panned out. Top batters Kjerstad, Austin Martin, Nick Gonzalez, Robert Hassell III, Zac Veen,

Patrick Bailey looks like he's having a decent start this season with a 1.1 WAR..675 OPS

I am once again reminded of one of my pet peeves, while trying to plan a vacation. I asked people to let me know 1, what kind of lodging they want, and 2, how much they want to spend. The answer ranged from nothing at all, to "whatever you decide is okay with me."

I'm guessing you can guess what comes next-I choose something, and all of a sudden everyone has an opinion (generally that everything about my choice is wrong).

Now the prices have gone up, and it looks like it's too much now.

I should know by now to plan my own vacation, and then whoever wants to come can join me.

We kind of went thru a similar phase when trying to plan family get togethers or reunions. We'd mention locations and dates and got crickets in return. Now it's we planning to be at X location on Y dates. If you want to join let us know by Z so we can make extra arrangements. If not, you're on your own

Apparently there were plenty of people at the public meetings registering their opposition to the moves.  I keep chiding the people at work about the schools in Loudon County who had all their school named after principles or properties (e.g. Liberty, Freedom, Heritage): because they couldn't agree on names since the big bad woke crowd took away their ability to name Eva Hitler (nee Braun) Elementary or Charles Manson Middle School.

In this particular county the schools were renamed for Confederate "heroes" in 1959, it was part of the massive resistance movement over desegregation. It was done by racist assholes the (See the Byrd Machine) and is being done by a bunch of assholes now.

  4. This is solid red, 90% white SW Va. they might as well be Kentucky or Tennessee

A Virginia school board voted early Friday to reinstate the original Confederate names of two public schools.

Why it matters: The Shenandoah County School Board's 5-1 vote in favor of the move appears to be the first such action since authorities began removing Confederate symbols from U.S. institutions and public spaces in 2020 following racial justice protests that erupted after the murder of George Floyd.

State of play: The vote reverses the board's decision in 2020 to remove the local elementary and high schools' association with Civil War-era Confederate leaders Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee and Turner Ashby.

Consequently, Mountain View High School will revert to being called Stonewall Jackson High School and Honey Run Elementary School will again be called Ashby-Lee Elementary School.

  5. Trump has already promised absolute immunity for police

    https://www.poynter.org/fact-checking/2024/trump-legal-argument-protection-president/

    Quote

“You can’t stop police from doing the job of strong & effective crime prevention because you want to guard against the occasional ‘rogue cop’ or ‘bad apple,’” he wrote in all caps. “Sometimes you just have to live with ‘great but slightly imperfect.’” Police officers are protected against lawsuits related to their official actions, called “qualified immunity.”

Without “complete & total presidential immunity,” Trump wrote, “the authority & decisiveness of a president of the United States will be stripped & gone forever.”

It's what he's wanted all along an absolute police state

Along with a tax haven for billionaires

  6. I want someone to propose a bill that any candidate for public office pass the standard citizenship test required of foreign residents to become citizens. State and local offices should also include a current events test

On a completely side note: has anyone ever gone to one of these timeshare sales pitch thingies? I sometimes thought about taking one of these vacation deals, then just trying to find someone local and paying them to sit through the presentation so I didn't have too.

We have a Marriott Vacation Club membership. The sales meetings are a pain, but we've learned how to endure them over the years. Just stick to your budget. They'll keep bring other offers, one time weekend deals and such, it's just a matter of saying no unless you find something you really enjoy.

I'm not sure it's much cheaper than a motel for vacation but a one or two bedroom apt for several days is a significant upgrade especially if you use it off season. Hilton Head Nov-February is a great getaway. We've also done Spring Training in AZ that way as well as Park City, Ledson, UK (Hadrian's Wall), Paris and next week Vegas with a helicopter trip to the Grand Canyon.

I haven't done the math, but I figure it's about the cost of buying an RV, without the upkeep and noisy neighbors right next to you

    They also check for ID

Where was this being offered? I'm wondering if it's an official UFL or did they just buy the tickets for the game themselves?

The resort companies probably team up with other companies all the time. Marriott offers all sorts of "experiences" from sporting events to concerts and even gourmet dinner events.

I know Marriott is offering a couple of game events at Fenway. There is also some golf related PGA events being offered. It's all part of their marketing plan.

I'm sure the UFL or some corporation would offer up a luxury box or suite in exchange for online promotion. Throw in a dinner and pre game sideline passes, not a big deal.

  9. Because no one is taught critical thinking anymore. It’s all black and white, no shades of grey

It's not a hostage situation...... you just have to say yes..... don't you want to say yes??

It feels like it sometimes when they bring in the third or fourth sales person with a new offer. That said we sign up for it willingly.

Like the helicopter ride to the Grand Canyon and the Skybridge.

Minor downside, I was checking the timeshare website today, three days in Boston with a suite ticket to a Yankee/Red Sox game or a ballpark tour and private box for a RSox/Astros game. Alas, we need to wait six months past the Vegas/Grand Canyon to take advantage.

Probably not great that they're resorting to partnering with timeshares.

Only 500 club points for the weekend, including a welcome dinner and of course the three hours they hold you hostage for the"presentation".

I did the Ohio Turnpike for the first time in years back in January.... most of it is as boring as I remember, but while I struggle to compliment anything in Ohio *too* much, the trip through the Cuyahoga valley is actually fairly pretty, better than I remember it being.

Traveled Ohio a lot over the years between Metro Detroit and Virginia. I used to joke the trip wouldn't be so bad if Ohio wasn't in the way. I finally found secondary routes around Columbus that didn't leave me sitting in traffic. Still not super crazy about the WVa Turnpike and Charleston, however.
