  1. Some historians say saying something along these lines cost Winston Churchill the 1945 General Election ...although i've also heard it said, the people who voted for Labour -- including a bunch of homesick servicemembers -- were really voting for change in general.

I still can’t believe I hear people say that about Detroit.  They freaking live at 23 mile and Gratiot and act like working downtown is being in south central LA in 1989.   I made a comment to a family member a while back about a locally well known place in West Village. “You go into Detroit?  For coffee and pastries?”  They couldn’t believe it. I said “yeah.  And believe it or not there’s often a line out the door and it’s only white people.  And the houses in that neighborhood probably cost more than yours”.

At one time I was going to do a thesis on the history of the riot.  The idea would be that I'd get oral histories from all the people who want to share the stories.   The degree to which it was mythologized over the years was part of what stopped me.   I preferred to focus on things less subject to the distorted lens of fantasy.

  3. Fascinating podcast on Exurbia from Rick Wilson today.

Basically, those people be cray.   And reasons for that are self-perpetuating social isolation.

I think the suburbs that qualify in the Detroit Metro would be anything further out than Milford, I don't have a good feel for the situation in the northern suburbs past Pontiac.  Ann Arbor creates a weird situation to the southwest...maybe Pinckney and Whitmore Lake.  To the South well that's weird because of Downriver but clearly Dundee with the large Cabellas store is a mecca of sorts.

Latest Trump interview - here’s his position

“Former President Trump in a new interview suggested states with restrictive abortion bans might monitor women’s pregnancies and should be left to decide whether to prosecute women for having the procedure.”

I am frightened for every woman in this country.

If Biden doesn't win...what the actual hell?

LOL - if he tries to throw Melania under the bus, the bus for sure is going to end up in the ditch.

She'll go along with it so she can keep the gravy train running.   You see "Zone of Interest?" that bint who Hoss was married to was so enamored of her life in the nice house she put up with the murder of hundreds of thousands outside her doorstep.

Meaning they will have to sentence him to jail or prison in order to better survive an appeal?

What I understood was that incarcerating him now stops the trial until they get through some appeal.  Marchan wants this decided soonest.  If Judge Marchan is going to levy a harsher penalty they will have to wait until Trump actually has a juror murdered.
