I didn’t realize that A.J. Hinch, George Lombard and Chris Fetter all have psychology degrees. I don’t know if that means anything on its own or what its practical utility may be. At best it means they have not only a natural curiosity but that they also have goals they thought psychology would help them achieve.

According to the hard science/Engineering types in my family it means they are homos or bi curious or have deep seated problems.   At a minimum you should be wary of any woman whose hair is a bit curly, bordering on frizzy who wears fishnets at work, who has a psych degree.  You will be robbing liquor stores for her as she sits back in her lair laughing at what she got you to do for her.

  2. Reading the 2008 season "expose" Tiger Confidential by Andy Van Slyke is instructive in the effects of suddenly adding players without regard to chemistry.   Gary Sheffield always seemed to be annoyed to be there.  Dontrelle Willis had his anxiety issues.  Miggy may well have not been focused due to demon rum.

I hope the Ryan Garko signing which points to an understanding of psychology in team-building portends better results for our sudden influx of new and expensive talent.

Not holding my breath. Hard to imagine anything short of Putin dropping dead likely to advance that agenda item.

I wouldn't hold my breath but he is the problem.

  4. Yeah baby!

My joy at Japan having carriers with the same names as the ones we sunk at Midway and elsewhere...out there working with us to blunt Xi's attempt to bully Taiwan into submission like he has done to Hong Kong.

Because I have a different opinion than other people here I'm a paid troll?  Hardly.  I can send you my address if you want to send a check.  I came here to talk about the Tigers and got caught up politics.  Why on earth would a sports site even have a political section?

Its the immediate assumption I have of anyone who propagates sedition and insurrection.

Dudes probably had one guy with an actual loaded weapon.  The stories of moose in Alaska terrorizing entire companies of the Army guys up there because they go on exercises without live rounds.  The one guy with a gun is to ensure that nobody steals all their weapons.

I hope I haven't given anyone any ideas.

Seriously, how does one cosplaying guy with a sword overpower several presumably-armed special ops soldiers?

Day going very well up to this point.  Daughter makes killer game saving play in softball.  Son makes Eagle Scout.  Michigan wins big where not expected.  Dog back from weird joint surgery and back in the fold.

Come on boys.  Lets get back at this.

That was an ugly loss to an ugly team.

  9. I picked up randomly the Andy Van Slyke “tell all” about the 2008 season. wow is interesting to read in light of that team having such high expectations and only winning 74 games.

This season brought so much extra joy because it was such a bonus to have competitive baseball if not championship caliber baseball back.

And as we leave Minnesota for the last time this year, may we pause again for a moment, as we do every year, in silent reflection.  To reflect upon the reason why Calvin Griffith, who owned the Washington Senators in 1961, where they had been for 60 years, decided to move the team to Minneapolis/St.Paul.  His reason was simple, there were just too many Negroes living in Washington.  Way too many.  And so he sought out the whitest large city in the United States that did not yet have a major league baseball team, and found it in Minneapolis/St.Paul.  And that is the eternal legacy of the Minnesota Twins, that they exist solely because of the clarity of the world view of Calvin Griffith.

Lots of people probably don't know that about the Twins by now, and don't still hate them for it.  But I do.

The Briggs era Tigers were not much better.  That legacy has taken a bit of time to clean up under Mr. I who genuinely seemed to be "racially, pretty cool" to quote The dude.
