But the worst logo - in the history of sports - belongs right here in the D

The sad, confused tiger that needed serious dental work.      How did this even happen?

Probably why it only lasted two years!  Without Photoshop then, maybe it was a head of it's time!  LOL

I actually have no idea.  My dad gave me a set (or near set) of these to figure that out haha.  Planning on getting them appraised and encased or something like that but I'm not entirely sure the best way to go about it.

1907 AC Dietsche Postcard, Ty Cobb - Beckett says $150-300, condition pending.

I am intrigued by the USFL, but mostly because it brings back memories.  I was in my early 20s when the league last existed and I thought it was cool that a new football league started and was able to attract some star players.  I don't think I'll pay too much attention this time around, although there is an opportunity to troll Patriots fans by pretending to care about it more than the NFL.

Weird fact about year 1 of USFL 2.0 - all games for all teams will be played at one location.  All team are expected to play in their respective regions in year 2.

To boot this card was of the last series of Topps 1970 (7th) when there were less prints. I remember kids would collect cards all year, ex series 1-5 or 6 as they came out respectively, then the last series  came out always much later, ex August/Sept and NOT dispersed nearly as much and so many kids/collectors would get upset. Then you had to find these lesser printed cards to complete a set somehow (maybe go to a card show) only to pay $1 even for a common player because of the scarcity!

The reason there were less of the last series or two is because no one hardly bought them.  By that time of the year, it had turned to football season and all the kids were buying football cards instead of baseball cards.

And yeah, that doesn't even get at the ones who don't ever get out of the minor leagues.

This is the only real player issue I see today.  Minor leaguers are typically paid below poverty level.  They were better compensated with the minor league reorganization last year but there is still a long way to go.  Minor league coaches also.

In 2021, there were 4 pitchers who threw 200+ innings.  In 2011, there were 39.  I can't believe how much the workload of pitchers has fallen in the last 10 years.

There were 15 pitchers in 2019 that had 200+ innings.  2021 was an aberration because of the lack of innings pitched in 2020. Pitch counts are driving the reduced innings.   The number one reason for less innings (pitches) is the teams investment into pitchers.  They do not want them to throw too much and hurt their $10-40M a year investment.  All other issues are arbitrary.

Except Players haven't been getting smaller incremental gains. They've been going backwards. Baseball is generating more revenue and Players are being paid less. So why is it Players responsibility that Baseball locks them out and stops the game cold in its tracks for accepting less and less while Baseball makes more and more?

The minimum player salary is $570k, hardly going backwards.  Maybe as a percentage to owner profit???  Sorry, have to side with owners 100%  Players are treated like gold, never wanting for anything.  I would play for $0, with or without the MANY additional perks.  Owners risk everything, players risk nothing.

Wasn't it Javy Baez that stole home against the Tigers a few years ago and made the Tigers look even worse than they were that day?

Or how about this year when he evaded the Pirates 1B on a routine grounder to help score a run and ended up on 2B?  Freaking awesome play!!!

Wood was the active pitcher when Longoria hit the home run.

Tom's question is about the logic, not the rule. Wood obviously pitched longer and more effectively than Rogers, so by logic, he was more deserving of being assigned the win.

Ooops, I forgot the game was in LA, Wood was still the pitcher.  Stupid as the rule is, the starting pitcher has to go five to get the win regardless of any other information.  It could have been a coin toss who to actually give the win to with no rhyme or reason.

MLB doesn't need an expansion team. We have 3-4 teams now that hardly have a home. It wasn't that long ago where MLB was talking about contraction.

Contraction is nothing more than owners using leverage to gain something.  It would never happen.

  11. Just spit balling . . . . .

    American League

East – TB, BOS, NYY, BAL

North – TOR, CLE, DET, CWS

South – KC, TEX, HOU, San Antonio/Las Vegas

West – MIN, OAK, LAA, SEA

    National League

East – PHI, NYM, WAS, Montreal

North – STL, MIL, CC, COL

South – MIA, CIN, PIT, ATL

West – SF, LAD, SD, ARZ

18 games vs each division rival; 8 games vs every other team in league; 4 interleague games vs each team, one division, 4-year rotation (no natural rivals every year)

Sample post-season using this year’s records:

(no wild card, best record is home, all are 7 game series)

TB vs SEA; HOU vs CWS; PHI vs SF; ATL vs MIL (BOS, NYY, LAD, STL don't make it - hahaha)

I don't understand the appeal of fewer teams per division.  I guess I don't think I've heard the rationale for why it would make playoff contention, or baseball in general, better.

The appeal is to have an even number of teams in each league so an interleague series is not required every day of the season.

Two 15-team leagues with top 6 teams in each league making it would be ideal Top two seeds in each league get bye to 2nd round. Won't happen.

Two 16-team leagues with 4 divisions each would be ideal.  Only take the leader in each division, maybe a couple wild cards to keep it interesting.
