  1. Rasmussen's line was pretty good the other night.  He took a nice feed from Erne and hit the post..Namestikov took a really nice pass from him and banged it off the post.  I think that line has looked pretty good at times.  Ras still needs to pick up his skating a bit.

I have always disliked the Orioles because they were unbeatable in the early 70s when I was first really getting into the game.  Palmer-McNally-Cuellar

Earl Weaver preached pitching, defense and three-run HR's as the keys to winning.  It seemed like everyone but Mark Belanger was a threat to go yard on those teams

They say they picked that name out of homage to statues near Progressive Field that have been known as "The Guardians of Traffic" since their inception. Atleast that's the reason they give anyway.

"They" say a lot of things...."call before you dig"..."look both ways before you cross"..."don't put your finger in a light socket."..Frankly...I've had it with the nanny state

  4. The "Guardians"...how much did the popularity of the Guardians of the Galaxy and the MCU play into the choice of that name?  They would join the Anaheim  Ducks (ne Mighty Ducks of Anaheim) and the Toronto Raptors (Jurassic Park) as teams with names influenced by popular cinema.

The next expansion team should be called the Baseball Furies..but MLB may not be good with all the make up

  5. Prince Fielder's exit from Detroit was sad...from the way he belly flopped towards third like an Orca trapped on a beach to his post game comments that conveyed a definitive IDGAF message.   Maybe the saddest exit a prominent athlete has made in Detroit...at least that I can recall

  6. The Lions haven't had a truly dynamic DE since Ziggy..drafting Thibodeaux would certainly compliment the  interior DL selections they made last year.  He definitely fills a tough need to fill.  I just look at our secondary...it's such a disaster that getting a top end safety back there would make a huge difference.  Do they have a better chance of finding that guy later in rd 1 than they do an edge?  Maybe yes...maybe no.

I think Thibodeaux is the likely pick....I just like looking at our options

I know that Kyle Hamilton is not just a traditional Safety and can be moved all over the field and schemed into different concepts given his athletic profile and versatility. I also know that past draft decisions by a prior regime should not dictate future draft decisions by a new regime. That said, there is something wholly underwhelming about having four Top 10 picks in a row and you come away with a TE, CB, LT, and S and not one QB or Edge Rusher/DE. I don't think you can pass on Thibodeaux for Kyle Hamilton. As good as Hamilton may be in coverage, creating turnovers, and adding versatility to this defense, we need a dynamic pass rusher capable of disrupting the QB and getting 10+ sacks a season that we can build this defense around. I don't know that Hamilton is a guy you're building the defense around.

Yeah...it's tough to argue with what you're saying.  I really like Hamilton and Thibodeaux...we drafted Bennie Blades at 3 in 1988 and he anchored the secondary for close to a decade.  I think Hamilton could do that and give us some flexibility in our defensive packages.   I don't think we can go wrong with either.

the wings have the caps second round pick, the avs' fourth round pick, and the golden knights' fourth round pick.

they dont have any additional thirds.

For some reason...I thought the Av's was a third....now I'm questioning my entire worldview

  9. Every aspect of Zadina's game has improved immensely...except his scoring.  Not sure how much value he has as the perception builds that he's at best a second or third line player.   Veleno has the same issue.  Does a lot of things well out there, but hasn't forced the issue in GR by generating enough offense.  Looks like he'll get another shot up here with the Stephens injury...but can he do that from the 4th line?

Re the draft...we have multiple 2nd and 3rd picks this year...if we play our way down to that 12-15 range, there's ammo to trade up a bit if there's a player they really love

  10. Rasmussen has improved his skating...he needs to finish around the net better. He's had opportunities to bury a few and missed.  That was supposed to be his calling card.  He's made some nice passes, he's winning face offs at a higher than 50% rate and he has been decent defensively.  He blocks a lot of shots and his reach has served him well on the PK
