  1. Even over the course of my life (36 years now), people have gotten more and more cynical and nihilistic. Social media, in particular, added gasoline to that fire. What's particularly ironic is that I have family members who, back when FB first burst into the scene, would warn me against it and that it was bad. Fast forward to today, the roles are almost inversed lol Regardless, Donald is just the perfect leader for the "LOL, nothing matters" era that we find ourselves in. Distrustful of others, negative about the world, etc.
  2. Trump publicized this by taking this action in the first place. He felt it important enough even to take this action on Day One of his Presidency. You realize he has agency and could very well have not taken this action, right?
  3. For all the people complaining yesterday around 10 am about Biden's pardons, you think Trump is interested in some pardon reform? lol
  4. There was no physical abuse in my marriage. Also I will not be speaking about my marriage to Pete. Good Lord, that's a wild construct of the English language
  5. Sounds incredibly lawyered to say the least
  6. It's still up, genius
  7. One thing not discussed is that all the "51st State" stuff strikes at the pride of the Canadians as a people. Like, I think the assumption is that US can do whatever he wants in the relationship, but making it so personal risks stoking the patriotism of Canadians as well and increasing their tolerance for pain or interest in retaliating to the moves our government may make.
  8. Exactly. Ten years on, and we still infantilize the guy.
  9. I fail to understand why it matters whether people are surprised by this move or not. It doesn't make it any less outrageous. And is there reason to criticize Biden? Maybe. But I don't think criticism of Trump and every move he makes as President needs to be predicated or qualified by the actions of his predecessor.
  10. Sounds like just the kind of personality to run one of the largest bureaucracies in the world. Yikes.

  12. This is spot on.... I don't know what the future holds, and maybe it is bleak, but engaging in endless doomerism is a one-way ticket to nowhere.
  13. Not that this is breaking news, but the "actually, that's not what he was doing" and "that wasn't what you think it was" stuff only further normalizes this stuff as well.
  14. For all of the other BS, this is how he got the job.
  15. Have the prices of eggs, gasoline and other consumer goods dropped yet?
  16. Look, I do not think you intended to disparage autistic people with your comments. But, as I've explained, using autism as a possible explanation for Elon doing what he did absolutely can be (and has been) interpreted as insulting by those who are autistic.
  17. And in this context, put in the shoes of someone who is autistic or has Asperger's, tell me how it couldn't possibly be seen as demeaning to have people defend Musk for what he did on those grounds.
  18. This kinda makes my point? You are using autism as a possible explanation for him making that gesture Not that social media is a well representative or sorted group, but I didn't make this up whole cloth either:
  19. You are guessing or assuming that his autism made him make that gesture.
  20. The explanations are terrible. The fact that foreign outlets, including the BBC, Jerusalem Post and a bunch of the German press called it out but everyone domestically just wants to tiptoe around it... Sorry, I'm just not having any of it.
  21. The backfilled explanations for things are just so tedious... But it's the Hallmark of a Trump Administration
  22. 1. Clearly, obviously not the same thing. 2. You personally know the friend of the family and he has voiced that to you - you do not personally know Elon Musk and are speculating as to an explanation
  23. You are blaming autism specifically as a potential reason for why Elon made that gesture. It isn't some inherent trait for autistic people to stim a sieg heil or anything remotely close to it.
  24. Yeah, I'm not on board with demeaning the autistic community as a means to defend Elon Musk.
