what do we think about maybe losing Robert Campos? since he wasnt put on the 40 man
Correct decision. I have a really hard time seeing a team carry him on a MLB roster all year.

Heard from anyone yet?
Heard from relatives of theirs this morning that folks are okay. Most of it went down about two miles from their home, locked down, but okay

I have numerous friends in the Lewiston-Auburn area....hoping to hear from them soon.

We won't know what they have in him until he has a stretch where he is fully healthy, able to get in shape physically and and is able to get into a good routine, all things he hasn't had so far.
All things he hasn't had since high school. At what point is it fair to suggest he's not capable of those things?

You can hide problems like that in the BP though...
Shorter stints let less keying in on a pitchers' faults, as long as there are enough other positive aspects. I don't know how problematic the tunneling is; it may allow an easier read on his different pitches. But the other thing in the BP is he can let it rip more than trying to pace as a starter. An extra couple MPH may offset the easier reads on tunneling. The BP also usually limits repertoire to a reliever's two best pitches rather than a "use all 4 or 5 pitches mentality" as a starter.
I think this could all be shortened to:
I think he'll be fine as a 2-3 inning reliever; better than he would be as a starter.
A relief role has been the obvious projection for Flores for 2+ years. This shouldn't be surprising at all.

What are his chances of making it as a primary DH? He'd probably need a .800 OPS to make it worthwhile.
It all boils down to how his patience and strike zone knowledge translates when pitchers are throwing more strikes than he's ever seen, and better quality strikes at that. Does the strikeout rate spike and power dip because he's still trying to wait out pitchers, or did he adjust and swing more at pitches he can drive?

Nope, fake to Montgomery, 32 yards to Raymond.

This is a bummer. I think a lot of us fell in that trap. Oh well, at least we have Keith that we can get excited about. Unless we’ve also been deluded into thinking he’ll be any good, too?
No, Keith is a real prospect. He's not a world beater, but he's a good player that will have a 7-8 year career
-
Also, let's be clear, anybody that thought they got a "real" prospect for Joe Jimenez....was, wait for the word, delusional.

When they don't discuss an actual position in the answer, that's code for he has absolutely no position.

Still one of the all time great quotes in the old forum, someone said that Dean Green could hurt you with his glove, even at DH.
I once wrote that Billy Nowlin was allergic to leather. He was terrible defensively, at any position.

Can Keith provide acceptable defense at 3B in the majors ? Thanks.
Acceptable? Yes.
Average? Doubtful.

Malloy hasn't shown any ability to capably use any glove at this point. He's a DH.

When we traded for Norris he was averaging nearly 96 and topping out at 98 with over 12 inches of vertical movement, 2 years later and he was down to 92 and topping out at 94-95 with 5 inches more drop. Just a crazy drop in stuff in a short amount of time and that is just the FB.
The problem is his stuff had been that volatile since he was on the prospect radar. You could see home one start in HS and he'd be electric and the next he was completely ordinary.

I’ll never forget when in an early game Ausmus left him in the game during a challenging situation. People ripper Ausmus. Mark came in to explain that a knock against Norris in the minors something like lacking a killer instinct or something like that. So Ausmus was probably testing him. That stuck with me.
Just to be clear....that was the knock on him since high school! Soft as baby poo.

I think you are reading way too much into what was likely a casually phrased response to a reporters question. All I believe they meant to convey is that they hadn't received any updates and there was nothing new to report. I don't believe they were conveying any angst or expressing any concerns with the process.
This is correct.

Almost like it was a done deal way before this....

Barring a completely catastrophic turn of events (think major medical flags or the kid just straight walking away), this deal gets done. They knew exactly what he wanted before they picked him and don't make the selection that high without it being a 99% certainty. Once they drafted McGonigle, their math and draft decisions included his number.

On the draft subject I mentioned this the other day but not sure you saw it but in a recent Keith Law chat he mentioned that the GM's rarely make any of the pics its usually made my the folks in the scouting and player development camp, how much truth to that is there? I imagine Keith would know better than anybody since he worked in that field but I just wasn't sure if it is like that for every team.
Correct. GMs don't make the picks. They may influence strategy, budget approach, etc., but the scouting team is empowered to make the selections.

I imagine it's like that for the vast majority of all draft picks right?
High round picks there is very little doubt what the number/terms are. Lower round picks there can be some uncertainty, but they always have a good idea even on the low round guys. That's where your area scouts make their money....building the relationship with the player/family, and knowing what it will take to sign them.
-
The Tigers knew exactly the amount needed to sign him, the minute they picked him.

I've been consistently getting 8-9, but the last couple are a struggle at times.

I was pretty proud of my Lloyd Moseby pick for the Blue Jay/Tiger.

If you're just looking at stats, I'd suggest you don't get any type of real read until Double-A.

While that may end up happening, Curran's report that the Tweet/graphic is based on was him speculating after the Germany game. He made it very clear during his original info on this that he thought that was what was happening, not that he was told it is happening.
