Wasn't Tropicana developed as a multipurpose?

I think one of the things that baseball fans maybe forget or don't realize is that it was opened in 1990.  Camden Yards, which has become the standard for the new era of stadia, opened in 1992.  Tropicana should be more comparable to Toronto's Roger's Centre (opened as SkyDome in 1989).  But I think that because it didn't have a baseball tenant until 1998, it's sterile/unpleasant nature gets magnified a bit.  The Rays were created in the retro park era, but started and have only played in a cookie cutter.  And of course, the lack of attendance adds into the perception as well.

I believe Tropicana Field was built specifically to try and lure a baseball team to the area, with the White Sox and Giants the targets at that time. The stadium was used for other sports (it was the early home for the Lightening), but that was primarily because it wasn’t being used much until the Rays came along. I don’t believe multipurpose was the idea behind it, but may be wrong.

what even is this place? where did it come from? why is it here?

    well, no matter. hey, y'all.

These forums were developed to go with my other websites… MotownTigers, MotownLions, MotownRedWings, and MotownPistons. It also provides an alternate place to post in the event that our original forum (MotownSports) has issues. I no longer own or operate that site/forum. That site was sold in June 2020.

I was asked the question on another forum this morning about what was up with MTS.  I sent the link to here.  I hope that's cool, but hey, if not, fire me.

I'm good with that. I have no issues if this is done away from the MotownSports.com site. Feel free to tell people about this forum otherwise! :)

More than .500 I would like them to catch Cleveland and finish in second place.

That's still a reachable goal at this point.  Tigers schedule is still tough, but they've been finding ways to win despite the tough teams.  If they make it through this weekend with no worse than a split, we have a good shot at second.

  5. Yes, probably unlikely they hit .500 this year with the remaining schedule as it is.  However, they have played much better than I believe most expected, so we should be pleased.  Take away April and they were a pretty good team this season.  Future looks bright!

I don't expect 3000 this year... I'll be happy to be wrong.

I'm with Red...  I think he may fall a couple hits short this year.  Would be happy to see him get both milestones done in 2021, but it gives fans something to look forward to next April if he falls short of 3000 this season.

Seems the new ownership doesn't take much interest in keeping an eye on the forums to ensure they're working.

No they do not... I had much higher hopes for what they might do with the site, but for the most part they have put little into it and do not seem to watch over it very well.

I've found the site to be pretty terrible for some time now - lots irritating time outs even when it's not completely down.

I believe they have downgraded their hosting resources a bit ($ savings), which means potentially more problems when the site requires more resources to run then are available.
