  1. this was one of my early songs (the intro at least). pretty much my favorite song ever and the bulk of the reason I have a 12-string guitar.
  2. of that I have no doubt.
  3. lolwut
  4. there were a few. but yeah, agreed.
  5. the "anti-car" vehicle is apparently Ukranian, according to the comments. someone suggested that that might happen if the car was suspected of carrying a (hostile) bomb. I didn't watch the entire video (and don't care to unless nothing worse happens after the car gets run over), though, so I dunno.
  6. https://www.npr.org/2021/11/19/1057298058/biden-nominates-new-chair-for-postal-service-board-ousts-dejoys-allies confirmation hearings need to happen.
  7. Biden can't fire him directly. he needs to "update" the board of directors or whatever, and then they can fire him if they choose.
  8. basically, yeah. they also apparently round their lips when they make the 'v' sound. like 'oo' with the top teeth touching the bottom lip.
  9. in Ukranian, the first vowel is what we would call a short 'i'. the second syllable is close to "yeev" (but a pretty short 'ee'). stress goes on the first syllable. the Ukranian pronunciation is probably indistinguishable from "keev" to our English-speaking ears.
  10. oh, that old trick.
  11. I'm impressed. where'd you get a picture that's not in google?
  12. only if we can switch to their parliamentary style of government.
  13. oh, that looks sweet. I'm almost completely on the opposite end, got a Tascam DP-03SD—two mono inputs, 8 tracks. it was fine when I just had a drum machine, software polysynth (recording direct to wav, and no sequencer), and guitar, but now that I'm getting into sequencer-driven synth hardware and synching the sequencers to my drum machine, which has stereo outputs, I think it might be time for an upgrade. not a 2488, though. maybe just a DP-24SD. I've never done the DAW thing, either. I don't mind all the mixing and mastering, but I'm cool doing it on my little Tascam. there's not much to my recordings to date anyway.
  14. gah. so. freaking. cute. I would boop their pink noses all day.
  15. I don't mess with knobs too much when I play guitar, but I looooove it with synths. not necessarily while I'm playing on a keyboard, but if I'm messing with a longer sequenced part, then yeah, totally. it depends on the synth. this Subharmonicon I'm messing with can quantize frequencies, and, well, I don't have a ton of hardware experience, but I think most polyphonic synths and stuff with keyboards and/or digital readouts can. the Mother-32 I had last month doesn't, so unless you have perfect pitch, you're breaking out your tuner. as for tone parameters, that depends even more on the synth. something relatively simple like the Moogs I've borrowed doesn't have much, just a simple envelope or two and the standard cutoff and resonance knobs for the filter. can't even select low-pass/high-pass/band-pass/24dB/12dB on those (except HP/LP on the Mother-32). but a complex modular system... you better document your patches or you might not get them back. at least if you're a sub-amateur like me. here's me twisting knobs while the Subharmonicon's sequencers do their things:
  16. nope, closed for the holiday.
  17. you know, like the guitar thread, but for people who play other stuff. Portland has this cool synthesizer "library" that I've been taking advantage of this year. first I got a Moog Mother-32. decently cool, and the first Moog I'd gotten my hands on. my next checkout was a Novation Bass Station II, and I'm gonna have to buy one of those. just waiting for the local synth shop to have one of their 10%-off sales so I can get it for under $400. and right now, I have a Moog subharmonicon. kind of a squirrely little sucker, but I'm getting the hang of it. I think some people call it the "happy accident" synth, and I have to agree, since I mostly make it sound like crap until I get the sequencers' rhythm knobs lined up just right and it starts playing the greatest thing ever. last night I had just such an experience, and then I decided around midnight that it needed a beat, so I just had to dig out my drum machine. I was screwing around with all that till like 5 or 5:30 AM, and I was so jacked up by it that I didn't fall asleep till probably almost 8. ugh. what other sorts of music makers do we have around here?
  18. he'd have the ratings he desperately craves, that's for sure.
  19. Like Biff, I also hate to get up from under cats. Especially when he's snoozing on my arm like this on the couch. I may someday have to get his paw print tattooed on my neck where his paw always rests.
  20. This is my buddy, Jungle Jack. He's definitely getting on in years—best guess is 18-19—but he's still doing fine for his age. Chronic kidney failure, chronic asthma, and not really anything else wrong with him. He's the sweetest, cuddliest, snuggliest, friendliest cat I've ever met. I don't know what I'll do when he's gone, but it seems at present that it'll be a while (a year or so?) before I have to worry about that.
