  1. Corporations are people too. Wasn't that the mantra of conservative corporative's not that long ago. Also affirmed by the Supreme Court when they ruled in favor of Clarence Thomas' wife in Citizen's United. Actually, the country has always had a history and problem with corporations. That's how unions gained some control back in the day. I would love to see public financing of campaigns. You get X amount of $$ and can spend no more. The Pols will always find a way around it. The reality is even with that there will always be lobbyists pimping for their overlords. I'm also in favor of bring back horse trading. And reinstalling stocks for offenders of election lawa.
  2. After getting a notice recently from our local cable ripoff, we've resorted to their most basic package. Internet (since they own the viable monopoly) and local channels. We're between two markets and towers are too far away to realistically pick up anything without a big antenna. We have a Roku and buying the usual suspects. Netflix, Prime, Disney. I think we're on a free Apple subscription with our phones. A donation to our local PBS affiliate gives us their on demand stuff... edit... Just the two of us, but we upgraded to their highest internet service. My wife's job keeps her on line most of the day so we needed the ability to stream.
  3. How many ended up staying in Texas because of the war with Mexico? My great great grandfather was alleged to have befriended a young Davey Crockett. He was also the first wagon-maker in McKeesport, Pa and reportedly had a contract to provide wagons to the US Army for the Mexican War. I've always assumed the Crockett connection led to the contract.
  4. Except it wasn't illegal to wear a tan suit or have a non white name.
  5. According to Wikipedia New Amsterdam was under Dutch control until 1664 until the British seized control of the harbor. The Dutch never sought to remain control preferring to keep sugar plantations in South America.
  6. But, But, Washington was a General...that name would never work. Maybe that's why Snyder wants out of his lease. He's moving them to Hampton Roads..
  7. I've had friends and relatives proudly showing off their Trump socks they received for Christmas. Drive any backroad in rural Michigan, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Virginia, etc and I will guarantee you will see at least a dozen Trump signs, flags or whatever in a 25 mile stretch. More than a year now after the election. If that doesn't constitute hero worship.....
  8. https://www.thebulwark.com/the-good-coup/ These people are turning us into a third world country.
  9. Not surprising, he's Trump's type of dictator.
  10. Maybe just revert back to the Treaty of Paris....
  11. I could see a East Coast Federation of NJ, NYC Metro, Eastern PA, Maryland, Delaware, Eastern Va, Including DC
  12. I'm more concerned about drugs, crime and terrorism from folks who claim they're "REAL ''MERCANS" and join unauthorized militias.
  13. Not smarter than you, but I think if there was a split it would end up as several smaller nations not two. You would still have the current problems of dissent within each territory. This is exactly what the delegates feared when they gathered to draft a constitution. Then it was only the fear of 13 individual nations being taken over by the likes of England, France, and Spain with lots of territory still occupied by native tribes.
  14. Read the JD "Upscale Hillbilly" Vance comment....
  15. Amazing how all these guys are disciples of free enterprise......until....
  16. I remember. Wishful thinking, Pandora's storage place has been opened and can't be reversed. Repealing the Fairness Doctrine was the beginning of the downhill slide of the media. Killed mom and pop stations, just like the big box stores killed mom and pop businesses.
  17. And bring back the Fairness Act..
  18. We watched Don't Look Up last night. I was entertained (especially after a couple glasses of very good wine) That's all I ask from a movie
  19. Wishing you the best. I understand about lung issues. Are you on one of the super expensive prescriptions? Just received the first shipment, more than twice my mortgage.
  20. Betty White, you were a national treasure
  21. The options are endless
  22. That seems to always be the case. When my son started Cubs I was told I had to be den leader or he couldn't join. I believe they gave me all the problem/rowdy kids. My schedule would accommodate meetings in the evenings or Sat mornings. Sports kinda killed Saturday so I scheduled meetings for 7 (I got out of work at 6:30) then feed the kids cookies at the end of the meeting to send them home hyper. When I asked parents in the den for help I got no response.
