I read about people's preferences for seasons in the Washington Post and this is a pretty good map:

What it basically shows is which season people tend to look forward to more, spring or fall. A lot has to do with the local climate, obvs: if you live in the cold north, you are more likely to look forward to spring; in very warm or hot climes, more likely to look forward to fall. This is apparently based on Google searches.

Now, this isn't a map, but I found this really interesting: you are more likely to prefer the season your birthday falls within!

There is a reason that the line in Bob Segar’s “Famous Final Scene” where he says autumn is closing in that hits hard for those who grew up in the North.  It’s the resignation that a particular kind of joy is about to end.

Meanwhile, living and running youth sports in the heat of Virginia, i welcome Fall.

“Mr. Biden has granted far fewer press conferences and sit-down interviews with independent journalists than virtually all of his predecessors. “

what does the use of “virtual” mean jn this context?  I hate when people use it like this.  It’s like you want to say something that isn’t true but figure throwing in “virtual” lets you say it anyway.

The paper of record is a bitchy bunch of so and sos.  Or at least their publisher likes him some Trump.

It is odd but In this part of the world, 'soda' is what you mix with a whiskey and pretty much only that. I suppose since 'Soda' is short for 'Bicarbonate of Soda (sodium)', which is what club soda is, and a Coke doesn't have much sodium in it (compared to Club Soda), it's not a 'soda'. But I've been hearing 'soda' even in SoCal recently.

ESL classes must teach that because the cash register girls at all the cafeterias say soda.

I remember going round and round with OMF on this one. Certain as can be he still believes it's a privilege that should be withholdable by discretion of the lord of the manor, but he's been out of my life for maybe 15 years now, so I don't know for sure.

We are not strong enough lately in defense of our inalienable rights.  Except the right to shoot to kill someone in our house or school or church if they offend us.

Agree with much of what he says, although I strongly disagree with the idea that voting is a "civic privilege". It is a civic right. A right is something that accrues to you by dint of your citizenship as long as you otherwise qualify (e.g., minimum age). A privilege can be withheld from you at the sole discretion of whoever deems themselves, and whoever you agree is, the holder of that discretion. After all, it is not called the Voter Privileges Act.

    I def agree with that.

so this shift is going to help statewide Dems and Biden. The implications for House races depends on how many are within the margin of the shift vs how many are so lopsided that 10% still doesn't flip them - as in this case. Sadly, I imagine most are in that category.

going from 90% in rurals to 75% in rurals is going to make a massive impact in the 2024 race.

If he is found no guilty and still goes to jail for the contempt charges, that might bring some undecideds back to vote for him. All they will know is that he is innocent but the deep state still sent him to jail.

but on the bright side he will go to jail. Then again, i've heard that jail is where criminals learn how to be better criminals.  So, he'll likely graduate from Rikkers or Attica to go on to burglary and B&Es.
