What are we waiting for? Start the game!

Must be waiting for their new players to arrive!

I’m not ready for first line center Joe Veleno against the Avs.

  2. I certainly don't know much about the NBA and don't follow the Pistons closely because I am a fair weather fan....but from the outside looking in it seems like the Detroit front office seems more interested in doing favors for family members of people in their org than actually making good moves?  The Bartelsteins are close with the Tellems and they seemed to be doing them two favors by cutting Muscala then signing Gibson.  Between this and giving Buddy Boeheim a contract it seems like they are deeply unserious about being a good team?  Am I crazy?

Kane was already with the Wings for the first Larkin injury, although Kompher and Perron were out.

Missing Larkin and Compher was absolutely killer to this lineup, they'll miss Larkin right now but at least JT is alive

Time to call up Kasper for a week or two...

Even if he's on the 3rd line and the 1st two centers are Compher & Copp...

Let's see how he handles the NHL.

you'll get Austin Czarnik and you'll like it!!! (at least that's my guess)

  5. I think it is only a mater of time that the Wings sign Kane to an extension, the people that kept hinting that Detroit was going to inevitably sign Kane make it seem like he wants to be in Detroit to finish his career.  The sense I get is that he wanted to be with the Wings for a bit and the Wings went with the one year deal to test out his hip, moving forward unless he injures himself I think he'll sign.

  6. Seems like a very weird deal for Calgary, I was reading that prospect from Dallas was probably not even going to get a QO after this season as a RFA.  A second seems pretty whatever for a solid defenseman, the Stars won't care if they lose the third because that means they made the cup finals.  And with all the salary retention it seems like the Flames should have gotten at least a mid tier prospect...  I have a feeling Yzerman isn't too interested in trading for a defender right now but that's just my uneducated guess.

  7. I'm surprised they're top two, guessing Buffalo is #1 based on Wheeler's preferred types in his rankings.  But it makes sense to me, the Wings have pretty intriguing prospects across the board now with Danielson - Kasper at center, Edvinsson - ASP on defense, and Cossa - Augustine in net.  That's ignoring the handful of other guys who are in the AHL / potentially close to the NHL, and then lottery tickets like Buchelnikov who just had a solid season in the KHL.  Andrew Gibson has definitely shot up rankings this season as well this season.  Nothing is certain with these kids but the Wings have done a good job building potential depth in the system. It has been a lot of fun following prospects this season.

Looks like Mazur is out with an injury tonight, hopefully it is nothing serious because he's been playing well lately.  I think they've been using Berggren - Kasper - Mazur a bit and they've had some success.

  8. I have to say I think I’ve hit my breaking point with “fancy” stats and stat cards. It seems like everyone has their own version of it these days and you can work it to build your narrative however you want. I don’t even fully get what the athletic is trying to say here but it seems to reduce the players to…. I don’t even know what…. all while ignoring any sort of nuance and context that goes into a roster. It’s like the clown on twitter who wrote an article about how the Kane signing is a failure as predicted and is still digging his heels in online because his fancy stats tell him the whole story. I used to be all about them but now I’m fully in old man yelling at clouds territory.

Wheeler in the Athletic is counting down the top prospect pools...revealing one team a day.  The Wings will be somewhere in the top 3.  He's been somewhat dismissive of Cossa as a prospect...it will be interesting to see if his AHL performance changes that perception

Wheeler probably still isn't convinced Seider was a good pick either 🙄

  10.

Hard to not be excited about how cossa is playing right now, putting up big games against good AHL teams. Even saw a clip of him giving the admirals leading scorer the business with his stick a bit, so the kid is feeling his swagger right now.

It's true that some of these didn't really make the NHL until 3 or 4 years after their draft year.

Some? Looks like it is true for pretty much all of them except for Hronek I'm seeing so... some patience is needed I would say.

  12. It is really hard to fast track players from the draft to the nhl and have success, especially outside of the first round and sometimes even in the back half the of the first round.  Sure it would be nice to have some of these later picks up and contributing but it isn't very abnormal that the process is slower than the Seiders and Raymonds of the world.  If you go and look at the second and third rounds of these drafts there isn't even a ton of average established nhlers.  If you expect the Wings to hit on instant superstars you're going be really disappointed, if it were easy all the teams would be doing it.
