    Thurmond, Eric Show and Dave Dravecky, three fifths of the Padres rotation, were members of the John Birch Society. I remember reading that and thinking nothing of it and it never became a big deal. I can only imagine what social media would do with that today.

    It said they were willing to trade just about everyone. That is not the same as trying. really, what is there to tear down?

    I think he is a relatively poor GM and I wish they had a different GM, but I don't think every move he makes is automatically going to be awful. His past history suggests that in cases like this one where the Tigers have some leverage he is more likely to ask for too much than too little.

    Probably Greene which will be one less reason for watching the Tigers that series.

    Maybe down in Texas, but I still think that angle is a bit off. Abbott is running, not the doctors.

    I agree. There has been a feeling that Avila asks for too much for his starters. If that's the case, then the worst thing that happens is they turn him down and he stays with the Tigers. Since there is no need to trade him now, that is fine.

    OK, I get that, but the Brewers don't have a history of making bad trades. We don't even know if the Olson trade is bad yet. Norris was a good prospect a while ago too.

    It started out good. The problem is it makes the doctor seem like a dick along with Abbott.

    When a DH with a 97 OPS+ is your best hitter that says more about the team than the player.

    Why the Brewers? They have been in the playoffs four years in a row and will probably make it five this year. And they didn't have to go through a prolonged period of hopeless teams to get there.

    The only thing good about WalMart is low prices, so if they are unable to keep prices low, they could be in real trouble.

    I saw an interesting suggestion today about eliminating the regular draft and instead making it a free for all with each team getting a budget based on their records last year. I believe that would be a way to give weaker teams a chance to get better while still rewarding organizations with good talent evaluation. I know this will never happen, but I think I like it.

    This is how I feel. He is a weak GM compared to others, but he is not totally incompetent. If they have a chance to get something decent for their relievers then do it. Avila trading Skubal would be problematic. They can't go on like this forever though. It's time to move on to another GM.

    I think we can speculate about pretty much anything here without hurting anybody except for relatives of minor leaguers.
