The panel was also saying whoever gets Bijan is gonna get a generational talent. DL and Bijan would be an ideal 1st round haul. Wonder what Holmes thinks.

I wouldn’t say you’re putting them over a barrel. They are doing them a favor. You said it yourself, they had no leverage, Lions didn’t put a gun to their head. They just said, hey we will keep ya and give you guaranteed money if you take the cut. Otherwise you’re free to look for a deal elsewhere, where these players won’t get what the lions are paying them. Holmes is giving these guys a real option.

Teams are putting legitimate thought into how much to pay a QB on his second contract when much of his game relies on running. That’s exactly what we are seeing with Lamar Jackson. How much do you guarantee? I’d Lamar or Jalen end up getting hurt and needing to be more of a pocket passer, how successful will they be? That’s the question. Eventually there will be a point where the percentage of cap space a QB takes will hit a tipping point, it can’t keep going up forever.

What it comes down to is the evaluation of Brad and Dan (duh). If they decide that Anthony Richardson is the best QB prospect then I would expect a trade up to 3 to go get him. If they don’t like any of the QBs they will sign a vet and move on. Not sure the cost of swapping 6 for 3 is, probably a 2nd rounder. This draft is the first one I remember where I don’t really care what direction they go. Any of WR, DL, QB or secondary either the two first round picks is a good with me. No on a TE. I’d be ok with Robinson at RB if they love him.

Really excited to see how this team responds with the expectations they will have going into the season. Looking at the draft boards, I think going DL and WR in the first round would be my preference. One more weapon would be ideal.

This says $500k total in per game bonuses. I didn’t read it at $500k per game. If he played all the games it wouldn’t be a pay cut at all.

Brad Holmes is just nailing it. Certainly setting up this team for success this year. The lions are going to be a serious contender. They should be front runners for the division.
