The Tigers dismal track record doesn't mean everyone fails.

While I understand the cherry picking of failed prospects to make your point there have also been VERY good players traded at the deadline. As always with baseball prospects it's a roll of the dice.

I think they did it just to show the Tigers that it can be done.

I'm usually an optimist. I've posted here that I was predicting the playoffs in midAugust 2024 but this team is damned depressing. It's like they have no fight in them. Even the 119 loss team fought to the end.

Mize needs to continue to pitch well. Along with Skubal we can get a haul of prospects at the deadline.

So it's overdue. Both sides seem pretty dug in and prepared for a long battle. We'll see if it's all just bluster soon enough.

Doesn't make much sense to make a blanket statement like never trade pitching either. There are always exceptions to the rule. I know when they made that deal I was sad to see Maybin and Miller go but I told my Dad then that Miggy was HoF level so we had to make the deal. I was no prophet because anyone paying attention knew he was special.

Tonight's lineup with 4 black holes in it. Why AJ insists on playing Short is beyond me.

Obviously I wasn't advocating trading Flaherty for Mike Trout. Great strawman to knock down though. Barring another run of injuries we're going to end up with some surplus pitching. Depending on options, etc there may be some that would either be traded or exposed. In that case trying to work a trade attaching an arm to a couple of our prospects that another team my think they can rehab might bring some return. It's worth exploring and I'm sure the front office is/will do the planning necessary. And just to be argumentive. NO One should be or is untouchable. If we were offered this deal you would have turned it down since we included 4 pitchers in it? That would certainly violate your "NEVER trade pitching" mantra.
