  1. Took a big swing, and hey, chicken dinner. Wordle 287 3/6 ⬜⬜⬜🟨⬜ ⬜🟨🟨🟨⬜ 🟩🟩🟩🟩🟩
  2. They're right—lying definitely would not have any bearing on his ability as a Republican senator, if by "bearing" they mean negative consequences.
  3. I see that Axios has gotten hammered in other threads as a Republican Trojan, the way Politico has been, but that doesn’t mean China and India aren’t actually helping Russia back on its feet, since that would pass the smell test. US ignores that at our peril.
  4. Red (hat) privilege.
  5. Amid the relentless firehose of seemingly all bad news for Russia, this kind of succor could be concerning.
  6. That, or an indication of an old, even Tsarist, way of regarding their military: as expandable widgets, which can be easily and cheaply replaced if they’re “neutralized”. I see how the first part could be; I’m not so sure the second part is that easy.
  7. Here, let me make it one step easier on you: https://www.amazon.com/All-Family-Changed-Television-UNIVERSE/dp/0789339730/ref=asc_df_0789339730/
  8. Carrol O'Connor was also kind of a diva, according to the new All in the Family book by Norman Lear. Rob Reiner was just as loud at table reads and script pitches IRL as his character was on screen. Jean Stapleton, as a respected stage and screen actress, could make everyone stop in their tracks with a quiet observation or suggestion. It's a book with great insights about the show and the people.
  9. I think one reason Bunker keeps flogging the dementia canard is because he can't effectively argue against Biden's actual work, other than the catch-all umbrella idea of "he's destroying America and the world", which obviously isn't a criticism of Biden's work at all.
  10. Daz is one of the unfortunate class of Tigers prospect acquired under the previous development regime and who suffered from their incompetence. Derek Hill, our first round pick from eight years ago (!), is Exhibit #1. Alex Faedo, Beau Burrows, Cristin Stewart, all behind what their development should have been. Even Matt Manning took five years to finally make the team. Remember Jonathan Crawford? I barely do, but he got $2 million in the draft and is now out of organized baseball. And these were all first rounders! I have a reasonable expectation that we won't be seeing this massive level from the Hinch-led regime.
  11. I think the only way those two kids flop is if they are chronically injured. As long as they can stay on the field, they are going to improve and produce for the next few years. I also believe the organization is getting themselves into a position where they don’t have to put all their eggs in a basket of two players and cross their fingers so they can win every decade or two. It looks to me they are building a sustainable system of player identification and development that will outlast Tork’s and Riley’s tenure with the team. As down as I have been on this owner and organization over the past five years, I am right chuffed to be able to say this and mean it!
  12. That's OK, Cawthorn is only passing through Congress on the way to a permanent gig at some wackadoodle fringe right wing media thing, quite possibly based in Москва.
  13. My wife and I are mulling over when to get it. Should we go soon as possible, or wait until flu shot season? We ask because if we get it now, will its effectiveness fade by the time late fall/winter comes? On the same hand, we're going into summer and it's not likely we'll have a big deadly COVID wave, so I wouldn't want to waste max protection on a time period during which the danger is diminished. On the other hand, getting it sooner makes us more confident to travel as we plan to go on long driving trips in both May and August. What to do ... what ... to ... do ... 🤔
  14. Now wait a minute ... how is lifting border controls even possible? I was told we already had completely open borders to the south of us ...
  15. My favorite nickname has long been Agent Orange.
  16. And then ... Epic.
  17. Correct. I am also saying that these MAGAs are too weak-minded to develop opinions based on analyzing whatever the subject at hand is. They are already reactionary, which they've committed to instinct, so they know they need to oppose everything—that's the easy part. The hard part is coming up with the why, which is what they need to be told by their media. Get back to them on any of this in a couple of months and ask them why then. They'll have moved on and long forgotten the reasons by then.
  18. Just a friendly reminder that Republicans actually have no interest in legislating, because they profess to despise government. They're business people, or at least business-people-adjacent, and businesses are anti-government because good government holds them to standards, and businesses want no standards. That's why these Republicans ran for government, and frankly, that's why their districts voted them in. Their twin goals are to destroy the effectiveness of government from within, and then plunder the Treasury for themselves and their benefactors on the way out.
  19. Except "tremendous". That's the MAGA code word.
  20. Exactly what we would expect either a Russian agent or a useful idiot say.
  21. Bunker, as usual, has got it all backwards. The treaty with Iran wasn't intended to allow them to develop a nuclear weapon. The Treaty was intended to prevent them from developing a nuclear weapon, because inspections. It's not having a treaty with Iran, which eliminates inspections, that will allow Iran to develop a nuclear weapon. Fact is, right wing hacks, Putin fanboys, and other Republicans need the specter of nuclear Iran as a cudgel to clobber Democrats with during election cycles. Without that—that is, with a treaty in place—they have nothing of substance on Iran and can't effectively attack Democrats on this issue.
  22. Funny you say, I was wondering what if Will Smith had done that to a white comedian like Ricky Gervais.
  23. Have you heard the latest unhinged “plan” percolating in wackadoodle land? Republicans crush Democrats in elections this November. Republicans name Donald Trump as Speaker of the House, since nothing in the Constitution stipulates the Speaker even be a member of Congress. Republicans engineer the impeachment, conviction and removal of Biden and Harris. Trump ascends to presidency as next in line to the throne. From the noggin of Matt Gaetz … natch.
