  1. I think the complete opposite: Trump would have started Trump Media which, on the strength of the argument that the 2016 election was stolen from you good conservatives, would have catapulted it to the #1 position among right-wing media, which would have led Republican legislatures to audit the election and pass restrictive voting laws, which would have led to Trump crowing victoriously in his rallies, which would have led to his nomination in 2020, which would have led to his election that year based on two issues: The Big Lie, and the Hillary Administration's to keep twenty thousand people from dying of the Kung Flu. And he would be president right now. Or perhaps Trump would have faded quietly into the background, shrinking violet that he is. Equally likely ...
  2. Yeah, why are we wasting our time talking about stupid shit like abortion when we could be talking about important things like men competing in women's sports? Where are our priorities?
  3. Why isn't the fetus counted in the census? Why is it when there's a miscarriage, there isn't a funeral?
  4. Yup. Abortion is a gateway issue to implementing complete autocracy over all important aspects of American's lives. And if you don't want to have all the important aspects of your life circumscribed for you, then obviously you've been planning to break the law.
  5. That's easy: they can dissolve the Union in the way you suggest here and still maintain that the Union is stronger than ever, and any opinion or evidence to the contrary will be dismissed as fake news.
  6. This. Or else Republican legislatures passing voting restrictions specifically to keep likely Democratic voters from the polls will have done their job. One o the other.
  7. I disagree—I think if Hillary had won, Trump would be president right now.
  8. Well, if they do that, then Trump 47's ICE can arrest them at the border and confine them to a jail cell full of Mexican babies who've been separated by policy from their families.
  9. Children don't vote, either. Do they deserve whatever we foist on them since they can't stop it? This is not the time or place to litigate this exact point, but you know as well as I that it's about more than just who votes or who doesn't (or in too many cases, who can't). A system has been established that has allowed a minority to establish law and policy against the wishes of the majority, and it starts with an electoral process designed over two centuries ago that allows a candidate who gets the second-most votes to win the election over the person who gets the most votes. Speaking only for myself, I think it's fucking asinine. Feel free to disagree.
  10. Gotta hand it to Susie—she works hard on maintaining her brand.
  11. This is exactly what I was going to post if someone else didnt get to it first. The whole point of the leak is to let the steam out of the issue and get all the angry reaction and debate into the open now, so that when they reach their inevitable decision, not only will it not surprise anyone, but it will remove considerable heat from the Court at that moment.
  12. Popular or unpopular doesn’t matter with these religious fanatics. In fact, a central tenet of evangelical Christian fanaticism is the idea that their love of God and devotion to Jesus, such as it is, is unpopular, and they flaunt that as a point of honor. So they actually hope the ruling is unpopular, because that would simply confirm to them the world has rotted to the point that clears the way for Jesus to come back, as foretold by scripture. That’s what their actual hope is. The abortion issue is merely one catalyst leading to it.
  13. Brown, too.
  14. Outlawing it permanently across the country has always been a top goal. Criminalizing healthcare professionals across the country is next. Criminalizing patients across the country for obtaining an abortion, as well as for going outside the country for the purposes of obtaining one, would be their chefs kiss.
  15. This kind of thing is said here all the time and I fucking hate this sentiment. We do not deserve this shit just because a quarter millennium ago slaveholders struck a compromise with New Englanders to allow them to maintain outsized political power in exchange for creating some purported union.
  16. I did a quick backing out on these guys if they had major league average BABIPs, which is about .283 now. Haase would be around .256/.341/.385 which, these days, would make him an above average hitter (which is .233/.308/.370). But when I back out the other two, I get .233/.300/.329 for Candelario, and .238/.274/.313 for Schoop, neither of which is any good. Baddoo would come in at .231/.286/.359, FWTW. As for Clemens, who is killing it in Toledo, I did a MLE calculation for his numbers there, which is .299/.327/.557, and I'm coming up with .264/.281/.448, which would be a wRC+ of 103, which—well, shit, might as well call the "kid" up and finally give him his chance.
  17. "Saying the quiet part out loud" is so cute. So 2015. It used to matter way back then.
  18. The one kind of encouraging thing Haase does have going for him, at least regarding the bat, is his super low BABIP, which is .125. Since 2000, the lowest BABIP any player with at least 250 plate trips had was .171, which was Mark McGwire in 2001, which was the end of the line for him. The problem with Haase is the same problem so many of his ilk have had this year: they've bought completely into the homer-or-bust game, and this year that just isn't working. If FanGraphs is to be believed, last year, Haase put 42% of his batted balls in the air, and 22% of them flew out of the ballpark. This year Haase is still hitting 42% of batted balls in the air, and only 7% have gone out of the park.
  19. I had some chills and soreness, stuffed-up nose for sure, but very little coughing, no headaches, no fever, and smell and taste still intact. My COVID test came up negative, but hey, who believes anything anymore, amirite
  20. Yeah, we're doomed.
  21. You meant JP, right?
  22. Oh, wow, that’s the projection here! I hadn’t thought of that yet!
  23. I doubt Hinch is managing to the stat.
