What? He’s only 37 years old? Aren’t there any 45 year-old retired knuckleballers who’ve undergone years of surgery available?

Week Fifteen: Detroit Lions (8-5) @ Los Angeles Rams (10-3)
IdahoBert replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I just checked YouTube TV, and our robot overlords are actually going to let me watch this Lions vs. Rams game in Idaho instead of making me watch the 49ers game. I’m going to party like it’s 1957! -
It’s not constantly burning the heck down either! GO MICHIGAN!

I understand wanting to be “entertained.” When I want to be entertained alone I re-watch the first 15 minutes of Clint Eastwood‘s High Plains Drifter for the umpteenth time, which is incredibly exciting, and I skip past the rape scene because once was enough. Gilligan is not trying to merely “entertain.“ He instead wants you to be also seduced by the intriguing internal dramas the people in the show are experiencing, which are profound. I’m thinking he also wants to critique unreflective “group think” which we all get involved in.

E-7 of Pluribus was really incredible last night. There are only two more episodes left this season and the next one won’t begin for 1 1/2 to 2 years from what I’ve read. A lot of people have remarked that this episode is boring because it doesn’t move the story along very much, but it deepens the emotional and psychological stakes of the major characters who deal with crushing isolation and sorrow differently. I don’t know if it says something about how women and men deal with this differently or simply how different people deal with it.

JFC. It’s almost as if a troll is writing the script for this off-season.

Per Jason Beck: “…they were in a happy place for at least holding on to some key pieces.” The French felt good about the Maginot Line too… I know not everything has to be done right now. I was, though, hoping for more than just socks for Christmas.

So far it looks like the team is going to pretty much be what it was last year, maybe with the addition of one of the kids or two, I don’t know.

FIRE EVERYBODY!

I guess Pete Alonso to the Orioles is not a big deal.

When I saw that there were four whole new pages in this thread in an hour, I thought oh my God, something big has happened! But we’re discussing the merits of Al Avila. OK. Turns out it’s a slow news day after all.

Glad Finnegan’s back. He was a pleasant surprise.

Yeah, I think the era of a player on one team for life is a sweet thing to remember, but not consonant with the realities of our time. Players are no longer the property of one plantation owner for life.

I’ll admit that Scott Harris does look like a high school valedictorian. He must have a picture hidden somewhere like Dorian Gray, where his actual age is revealed.
-
I haven’t watched any interviews, but when I read where Harris said “no one is untouchable“ and that he’s willing to “listen” this means the organization is not desperate, that they’re not panicking, and they will not be easy prey and it’s going to take quite a bit to pry anything loose of substance from the club. It’s his way of dealing from strength instead of weakness regardless of optics. Of course I’m an inveterate optimist and I like reading the most positive intent into things.

“College Boy” is just a way of making fun of people who disparage education as a mark of inauthenticity although they would scratch their heads at the use of the term “inauthenticity” and utter resentful banalities about “the wisdom of the common man” being slandered. They’re the same people who are against the practice of the term “doctor“ being used for anyone except a male MD.
-
I am looking forward to a screaming headline mentioning SCOTT HARRIS and 3-WAY together to see how adroitly it’s handled given the fact that proofreading is a lost art in journalism.
-
Saw on the MLB app on my phone that Harris said there were “no untouchables” on this team and that he’ll act with “due diligence” and listen. I’m still not expecting earthshaking changes but whatever. Maybe the “college boy“ routine is a cover up for the fact that he can get tough the way that other “college boy” Michael Corleone did. It would be exciting to see him do something stupendous. I think this may qualify as being “optimistic.”

I have to admit, I sort of miss the drama of the way Dombrowski could acquire established talent, even if it didn’t in the end pan out the way any of us hoped it would. What’s the famous saying? “No man is an island, entire of itself; every man is a piece of the continent, a part of the main.” The Tigers have to be some part of the main this week. Some activity with other clubs that work within a SOP methodology seems to be required.
-
This team is capable of growing its own in its solar powered self-replicating underground hydroponic greenhouse, and is committed to that process, but I think Harris is fully aware of the value of coming up into the sunlight at ground zero and dealing with other protagonists on their level. I’m hoping for some above ground activity this week and if there isn’t much, I don’t think it will be because Harris is a conceited college boy or Chris is a cheap bastard. it’ll be for well-thought-out reasons aligned with a general operating procedure that has birthed more fruit recently than we ever harvested for many years previously.

Get on YouTube and fast forward to the 10:30 mark - beyond the banal foreplay all podcasts seem to mimic of warming up the audience, and the obligatory rite going down on rhe sponsors and it’s really nothing that we haven’t always already heard or knew ourselves without anybody’s help. It’s only two or three minutes long and after that, I stopped listening because I don’t care about other teams. You’re welcome.

I wish the Tigers were at least a Five Guys, but they’re not.

Week Fourteen: Dallas Cowboys (6-5-1) @ Detroit Lions (7-5)
IdahoBert replied to MichiganCardinal's topic in Detroit Lions
I also just realized that because the Lions are playing the Rams on December 14, I might actually be able to watch this game on my local FOX affiliate because FOX usually only lets me watch “regional“ or West Coast games because I live in freaking Idaho. -

Great win and it’s great to read the comments. I didn’t watch this game all the way through, because I took off almost an hour to watch the newest episode of Pluribus on Apple TV. But watching this game and my favorite TV show at pretty much the same time made for a good evening.
