He's actually a worse defender than Harris, believe it or not.  Shoots about 40% from three though.  Problem is his volume is incredibly low.  He only averages 2.9 attempts per game for his career and has never taken more than 3.7 attempts per game for a season.  Would be nice if he could double that rate while maintaining his efficiency.

If you think the Pistons need a secondary creator, this probably kills any shot they have at Murphy.

Collins had 78% of his shots assisted last year, which is about the same as Murphy (76%).  So if you think they need another creator  you can't really bring in two guys who almost never create for themselves.

Maybe he can be coached up into "The Pistons Way" and make a better effort on the defensive end?

I think everyone looks better when Ausar is on the court with you.

That won't help in the 4th quarter of a playoff game when the other team is isolating him every possession. You will get similar results to Harris and Robinson this year.

I view this as a placeholder move. I don't think Collins is a starter on a contending team. But he's probably the best of what's available to them at this time.

They did good structuring his deal to make it easy to get out of or trade if an upgrade possibility presents itself.

I can live with John Collins as our temporary solution at PF whilst we search for a longer-term, better solution.

I already expressed my interest in him in our offseason thread.

There are most likely no perfect solutions out there for us, unless we draft the right person, hence, I am fine with Collins for now.

I REALLY want one 3&D guy/wing, emphasis on D more than 3, and hence my huge want for a Keegan Murray. Cade-Ausar-Keegan-Collins-Center would seem like a decent enough mix of D and stretching the defense. Still lacking a little playmaking outside of Cade but, Sabonis+Murray would be a nice solution to that. IMO.

I get it on the late game iso's...

Decent upgrade over Tobias on a team friendly contract.

Better 2PT%, 3PT%, Rebounds, and blocks. Worse on turnovers and fouls.

Having a 40% three point shooter taking all those threes Tobias missed (or passed up) in the playoffs would've been huge.

Not the sexy move everyone is waiting for, but Trajan is at least keeping these contracts flexible in case some player actually wants to play here at some point in the future and they can finally make a bigger move.
