Between $25-$30 million. The closer to $25 I am the happier I am.

I mentioned the other day Sacramento would have to take back an extra $12 million to make the trade happen. That also puts them over the luxury tax and adds about another $8 million to the price. So a one time payment of about $20 million. I can see why they are not interested in a sign and trade. There is also the very real possibility this is made up by Duren and his camp.

One thing to note about the Duren situation. Oct 1st is a soft deadline. The Pistons and Duren can agree to extend that deadline. March 1st is the hard deadline. But with the Pistons first game on October 20th, I don't see Detroit extending it much, if at all.

Hard to argue a team has depth when Caris LeVert plays the 7th most minutes for them in the playoffs. The one thing most Pistons fans agree on is LeVert is a terrible basketball players. And he was their 7th man? That is not depth.

Speaking of Weaver. This was Langdon's third summer as GM and the Pistons "core" is still 100% Weaver guys. Langdon has done nothing to put his stamp on this team other than bring in a bunch of replacement level players.

The rumor was LA was going to meet with him a second time the night they signed Kessler. Makes me think Kessler was the target and Duren was just them doing their due diligence. I think the complexity of the sign-and-trade turns a lot of teams off. The added complications of the BYC rule and the player having to agree to sign with that team just makes them very difficult. An expensive player is even more complicated. A cheaper guy like Payton Watson is easier to do a deal with.

I think Detroit would have done a sign-and-trade had they received an attractive offer. Them saying they wouldn't do one is as much of a negotiating tactic as Duren saying he would sign the QO.

A little upset the affiliate over here will not broadcast it on their normal channel. The one which YouTubeTV carries. They will instead show it on their digital channel, which YTTV does not carry. The tower is about 3 miles away so the antenna will work fine. But now I have games on three different spots every night, and they all require a different app. Pistons on the antennae, game on Prime/Peacock/NBC/ESPN/ABC, and games on League Pass. So I can't watch multiple games at the same time without constantly switching apps. College football is great, all games on network TV. I can watch 4 at a time in multi-view and easily switch between them. That is what I miss with the NBA.

Not sure I could name 3 centers I would pay $40 million a year. It's not a position you should invest in unless it's Jokic or Victor. Give me a journeyman like Gafford and a guy on a rookie deal and call it good. Gafford and Paul Reed would combine to make about $24 million this season. I would take that over Duren 10 times out of 10.

I agree if Duren was a Mav or a Celtic. But when a guy you routinely outplay is on your team, he becomes the comp.

Speak of salary. The Pistons will be over the cap no matter what next year. Gives them a little more room on the luxury tax and apron's though. I guess I shouldn't say they will be over for sure. Assuming Duren is back they will be over. Doesn't impact any of our players since none of them will get max contracts. It impacts guys like SGA who will start their new deals next season. He will go from $60.9 million to $61.6. He can stop buying the store brand items now.

Even if I'm wrong, do you agree the more they pay Duren the more they have to give Ausar? I don't think Thompson should make anywhere near that amount of money. I'm just saying he is justified in asking for it based on their performance. Maybe I overvalue playoff performance and don't give enough credit to the regular season. But Detroit isn't a 14 win team anymore. They need to be paying and bringing in guys that can get the job done in April, May, and hopefully June.

More than Duren. But I don't think he signs this year. There is no reason for Detroit not to have already offered him an extension. The only reason it hasn't been done is Ausar's side wants to see what Duren gets, then ask for more.

How negotiations would go if I was Ausar. Ausar: You gave Duren $X I want $X + 10%. Pistons: Nope. You don't score. Ausar: I outplayed him two years in a row in the playoffs, by a pretty large margin. Pistons: Nope. You don't score. Ausar: I average 1.5 points less per game than him in the playoffs. I also play a little defense. Pistons: Nope. You don't score. Ausar: I want to be traded.

Watching Texas-OSU on channel 13 WZZM out of Grand Rapids on YoutubeTV. I'm seeing political ads about Amy Acton from Ohio. That doesn't seem right.

Here are both players offensive numbers from this years playoffs. Both are pretty bad. But one is an absolute terror on defense, one isn't. I'm not saying I want to pay Ausar $40 million per year. I'm saying if I'm Ausar, and I see my team pay a guy I have outplayed two years in a row in the playoffs, I want more than he received. That is not an outlandish request. It is yet another data point on why you don't overpay Duren to begin with.
