    Coulda been me.

I've been high on him since we signed him back in 2017-ish.

It was Avila's first foray into spending decent international money instead of "spreading smaller amounts" around. That was probably part of it... it was $500K IIRC.

But it was also that he was supposed to have a very high hit tool and really good speed and was projected to have some power (not much, but better than zero) for a middle infielder.

And I was getting tired of the Rey Rivera's that Avila was drafting at the time.

He showed the hit tool right away and looked like a decent prospect with a decent chance but...

Struggled in Low-A in 2019, pandemic so nothing in 2020, and was "meh" coming back in 2021, low and high A.

But he broke out in 2022 with a .900+ OPS in high-A and Erie... so I started chirping about him again.

    A bit loudly.

Glad to see he's made it to The Show and let's see what he can do...!

    No, it wasn't you

Hard to miss wasn't it? FWIW, I stopped wearing one 30 yrs ago after an wrist injury and never put it back on. A phone in my pocket puts the time close enough not to bother carrying around a lump on my wrist.

I did the same, and stopped fraying the left wrist on all my sweaters

  3. I love Wenceel Perez, one of those guys you could follow in the DSL and the GCL, and he was a shortstop back then which made him really interesting.  He stalled for a couple of years but came back and had a huge year in 2022, tailed off a wee bit last year, and one offseason genius, I forget which one, did not include him in the Tigers top 30.  So whoever that guy was, Wenceel has given him, in the words of the immortal Lou Brown, a nice big sh*tburger to eat.

Brilliant.  Avila's lasting gift is Hinch, whose in game management wins and gaffes result in a net zero effect on overall team performance.  He is neither a positive nor a negative.  He is a 0 WAR manager, like all the rest of them.

****.  Didn’t think of that. I live in Dearborn and finding halal hot dogs could be a good thing. Is that cheating?  It’ would be beef. Maybe it is cheating.  The hot dogs are the bad part.

I’m not sure 9 12 ounce cans of blue light or Miller High Life would do me in.  I have consumed that much beer at a game a few times back in the “good old days”.   It’s been probably 10 years.

Yeah, the good old days were almost 50 years ago now, but I was found in the bushes outside my university residence building, early on a Sunday morning, after having bought and consumed a lot of beer at the folk club on Saturday night,  The legend was that it was 20 but realistically probably only 14.
