the 2012 GOP primary was when we really saw the populist entertainment wing of the GOP emerge. They hated McCain, they were beholden to the blood and soil nationalists masquerading as Christians. I'm so over anything having to do with that element. That was the biggest GD circus. [until subsequent events proved it was not the biggest circus]

My affection for Mitt is much higher than it should be. I wanted him to be the one who sorted out MAGA through his example. He was unable to do that. His instincts were very right in many instances and very wrong in others. His denunciations of MAGA and votes on impeachment were vital. There were a few of them who put their political and actual necks on the line.

The grid needs upgrade in any event. Among my concerns about a return to a semi-rural Michigan is the power grid's susceptibility to storm outages. Bad enough that cable and water systems are constantly going down in Livonia where i pay a bill for my mentally handicapped sibling's condo. -

The Dems needed a solid caretaker centrist to achieve democracy saving effects in 2020. The primary process is designed (badly) to create early state chaos. Chaos is not what we need at this point. Nobody should be thinking "well, Elizabeth Warren seems to want to nationalize the banks, I'd better vote for Putin's preferred candidate who will demolish any artifice of the Rule of Law"
