7th is where he hit most often in his rookie season.  Anywhere between 5 through 8, but 7th was the spot most reserved for him.  No question it was too early and he was eventually demoted.

But 7th on a good team is a lot different than 7th on the '22 Tigers.

No regrets in taking him. No brainer at the time. The regret is his underperforming. We just have to play it out probably through 2025.

Almost every team would have taken him.

He lost a year of development during COVID.   Was brought up before he was ready and put into a terrible lineup, where he was expected to carry much of the load.     You put him on a better team, bat him 7th to start out and he's probably further ahead by now.

I've met quite a few people like that. They're against welfare..... but they themselves are on welfare. Of course, they're deserving of it, and prayed to get it.

There's also a fairly famous author who was a Libertarian, but whose family benefited from the Homestead Act, and a whole lot of other supports from the government.

    Sigh.

It's like they don't really know what Socialism is.  They think it's the extreme of Stalin (which is funny since they seem to love Putin now).

If we had zero socialism, it would be every man/woman for themselves and it would be total chaos.

It's a lot like how so many people say they need to be on a Gluten-free diet but they don't even know what Gluten is.

Nobody would take Javy even if the Tigers paid all of his salary. He’s not worth the roster spot.

Who says we have to trade him?     Just let him go.

We have a glut of OFs and pitching prospects that are never probably going to break through here (I am not talking about Jackson Jobe or Ty Madden here, they aren't trading them, but they have others).       Some team out there has a glut of shortstops.   Some team has a decent potential shortstop that is blocked from playing in the majors.     Go find him.      All we need is a guy who can be a plus defender and hit over .200.     Not looking for a superstar.

I agree panic moves are always terrible - but the problem is worse than 3 guys. These are current OPS deficits with respect to career:

Gio - -120 (granted very small sample - but not off to hot start)

    McKinstry - -80

    Kelly - - 100

    Jake - -150

Javy - -150 and this one is not even vs career - it's just compared to his already terrible last season

    Tork - -70 (but improving)

    Vierling - -30

and Riley started hot but is now slumping badly - 633 OPS for May.

Keith is actually coming around a bit. OPS was 387 in April, 584 so far for May.

Bottom line the team is trying to stay afloat with only Canha, Carpenter and Ibanez hitting their career averages and two of those are platoon bats. -- plus Perez.

If Tork gets hot that will obviously help, but I need to see more before I believe he is out of the woods.

There's a shortstop out there somewhere who could hit .200 with a .250 OBP and could hit at least 2 HRs in 43 games.  Somewhere,  someone's backup,  a guy in the minors who's blocked.........and it probably wouldn't cost you that much, maybe a backup outfielder or minor league outfielder (we have a glut of those).     This Javy thing must end.     Just eat the money Chris.   You can't tell me that there is no possible shortstop anywhere that can't be an improvement.   Javy is like the the ketchup clinging to the side of an almost-empty bottle.  Can't use it.  Time for a new bottle.  Even a dollar store brand.

  6. Sometimes you just see when someone is DONE

Kirk Gibson's second run with the Tigers

    O.J. with the Niners

    Iverson with the Pistons

Hatcher and Modano with the Wings

Javy is right there.   It's just obvious.    Not saying his career is done, but he's done as far as being a Tiger.   This isn't just a slump.

The closet you’re gonna get to these kinds of numbers is Shea Langeliers, and I wouldn’t mind having that guy for my catcher. How about a close-to-Detroit rotation piece and Jake Rogers for him?

We need a Shortstop...........I don't care if Jake Rogers can't hit.   He does great with the pitching staff.   His value could drop with robot umps, but they just have to move on from Baez.

  8. As far as replacing Baez.    All a player would need to do is hit .190/.230/.500 to be an improvement with hit 2 HR in 43 games.     I think Corey Joyce or Gage Workman could probably do that.   Joyce is a good OBP guy and Gage is getting better there too.   I know it's minor league pitching, but Javy's OBP before today of .198.      Dude's just done.

After today, how many years will it be before your next game?

Depends on if I get freebies.   My company has freebies but today's were taken.    I've been a bit overwhelmed at work (lots of last minute things because people think things can be promoted properly on the radio in 4 days).   I needed a day off, desperately.

I'm not paying to see this team until they give me a reason to pay.    Today wasn't exactly a great advertisement.

Tiger offense has been terrible for 3 yrs under Hinch and there virtually no sign of improvement or cases of hitters making unexpected progress. It's hard to make a case for this management around the hitting. To me the issue is how to avoid throwing the baby out with the bath water. The same people are running the pitching side very well. Can we get them to delegate to different sub-group who can bring more to the hitting without losing the rest?

    I really don't know - it's a muddle right now.

I think they are regressing.    Give Carpenter another year under Hinch and they'll ruin him.
