Motor City Sonics replied to mtutiger's topic in Detroit Tigers
There is a point when to get excited and if you do it all the time, not only is it annoying but it doesn't describe the game. One thing I have always appreciated about Dan Dickerson is his general excitement when someone from the other team does somethin exciting too. That's pretty important actually and a lot of broadcasters weren't crediting the other teams impressive feats. -
Underappreciated in America gem from the late 70s. Top 10 in the UK. Never forgot this song. Andrew Gold was a great musician. By the way, this song, allegedly, is about Saturday Night Live's Lorraine Newman, who Gold met when Linda Ronstadt played on the show. He went back to L.A. and wrote this song about her.

Always felt like "Don't Tell A Soul" was this. Hey guys, you recorded the stuff for your album, now go away and we'll put it together without you. I don't even know how much of the final mix of the album that came out back then was actually The Mats playing. It just sounded too clean. But also, when I saw them on their final tour (in that time frame) they sounded much better as a band than I had ever heard them before. They were fairly sober at that point, which probably had a lot to do with it. They were not speaking to each other at that point and the show ended when one of them, it might have been Tommy, looked at his watch and said "well, that's 90 minutes........good night" and they walked off, lights up almost immediately. Pure Mats. They ended that night with the song I.O.U. ("want it in writing, I owe you nothing"). Well, I guess they meant what they said. It was always something with them, that was part of the appeal.

If I remember correctly, Mitchell got picked on the same play twice, including the OT Pick 6. It was the Bengals, right?

There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of a Paxlovid binge. -
Wow............incredible dumb and bad throw by Minnesota's QB there. Reminded me of Scott Mitchell's last 2 passes as a Lion (vs. Cincinnati).

not doubting it at all, but just tired of both sides. both are wrong and this will never stop.
-
We got all kinds on my street and yet, shockingly, everyone gets along and actually looks out for each other. And this is in Orville Hubbard's old racist town. Go figure.
-
So sick of both sides. Neither one will ever be right and they'll never stop.

Just as I post that, they get an INT !

The whole thing is that if you are looking for The Next (Blank) than you're already behind the curve. This happened in the 90s with Alternative Radio. Everything had to sound like Pearl Jam. Even Pearl Jam couldn't stand it. Portishead comes along with Sour Times and I put it in the playlist right away. Consultant lost his mind. Listeners LOVED it. This is this mentality in radio that your station should be wallpaper - just exist in the background, not really getting attention. It's such a loser mentality. ` I want to put a station on the air that makes people believe they might actually miss something good. It only takes 1-2 songs an hour to build that

You can't stop here, this is Wolverine Country ! -
LSU's defense might be historically bad. And Brian Kelly killed a kid.

One of those cases where a major record label falls in love with a band and signs them and then for some reason wants to change them and interferes. This happened to Spoon and they bought themselves out of their contract and stayed indie. Why sign them and change them? Never made sense to me.

I've listened to plenty of Richard Hawley music but until this morning, I hadn't heard this. Have no idea why. It came up as I had the Spotify randomizer based on Lisa Hannigan on............This song is brilliant. It's just about perfect (because the perfect song does not exist, because that would be impossible).

"...........there's also a negative side" Woke up feeling about 75% normal today an sinues are mostly clear. I CAN BREATHE THROUGH MY NOSE AGAIN. Energy still isn't there yet, but it's Saturday and it doesn't need to be. The Tylenol has yet to kick in and that always makes me feel a couple notches better. Still got that little bit of sweat on my back that you get when you're sick. When that goes away I'll feel like it's over. -
not sure. he doesn't look out of place at all. it's possible that the days of parking guys could be over. If this team stays healthy they could be a surprise this year. But of course, we're Detroit, so we know key players will get hurt right away because we can't have nice things here.

Because he was just talking to you about baseball, he wasn't trying to sell you anything and that's why Dirks is so good. Just talks baseball..........that's all we want. C-Mo is unlistenable. Just stop trying to cheerlead..........do it when it's the right time. That's one thing Rod had down (Ohhh Jackson!). I know they'll use Gibby part of the time and I don't mind that, but you can tell that those Parkinson's meds are draining him and I hate hearing him struggle. Petry's alright. Maybin is alright and sounds better now than he did the first few times I heard him nationally. Jonesy is interesting. Not polished, but it works, but it wouldn't work 160 times. We don't even know who's gonna carry them next year. Bally's is going to survive another year? -

He was very good. Would it be weird with his dad's firing? I am guessing Dirks & Scales on a rotating basis and if Curtis Granderson wants the TV gig, he should get it, but I think he''s got other things going that a bit bigger than baseball, doesn't he? -

Tested positive for it awhile back, months ago. but I think it was a flawed test I have it now. Do I ever Sunday evening - walked Lucy the wonder dog. When I came in I was sweating. It was a warm evening, but it seemed a little odd. Felt Fine Monday morning. Felt sluggish. Scratchy throat. Took the test. Negative. Went to work (I get colds every year this time of year). Throughout the day I kept feeling worse, so I avoided everyone and went home. Tuesday morning - Holy hell I felt horrible. Incredible headache, neckache, sweats/shivers, cough. My mom lives close, had her drop off a couple of tests. Both positive. Laid in bed and just moaned like Billy Crystal in When Harry Met Sally. Never had a temp over 98.3 (97.3 - 97.5 is my baseline). Just laid in the recliner feeling sick. Wednesday morning - Woke up MUCH better than Tuesday (Tylenol helps). Went to Urgent Care and they confirmed it. Gave me a script for Paxlovid. Couldn't get it delivered and wasn't about to go into a store, even with a mask and surgical gloves (I have boxes that were expired when I worked at the hospital, but are fine for household chores and dog doody pickup - they were going to throw them away). I was able to continue doing my afternoon show from home (the miracles of modern technology). A listener emailed me "You sound horrible, why are you working?". (Out of fear that if they get by without me for even two days I'll be fired or something, it's a mental thing). Rested up, scheduled station music through the weekend, watched some telly. Thursday Mom picked up the script for me. Took it and it has the most bitter constant aftertaste of anything I've ever taken, so I decided to stop because I didn't need to pile that misery on top of the rest and I constantly had to be sucking on candy to defeat that taste. Felt better but started getting all the phlegm. Phlegm is an ugly word, isn't it? Perfect. Lots and lots and lots of ugly-ass phlegm. Then today. I can not remember fatigue like this in my entire life. I am freaking drained. Been laying about like a lump of dirty clothes all day. Other than the absolute true misery of Tuesday morning, this hasn't felt much worse than a bad cold. A very mild fever (if you can call 98.3 a fever) and the rest is a bad cold that won't go away with incredible fatigue. Of course it's lasting longer than a cold and I am banished from work until Wednesday at the earliest, but will continue working from home. If you want to hear what a sick person sounds like on the air 107.1 in Ann Arbor through about 6:50pm. I'll be playin Jason Isbell, The Police, Theo Katzman, David Bowie, Amy Winehouse, Devon Gilfillian, Echo & The Bunnymen and the Talking Heads. (annarbors107one.com). Small staff - no backups and the whole 'they can't get by without me, can they?' thing . Then no more working for a few days and more laying around. I sure hope this fatigue improves by tomorrow. I sat in the recliner to watch only Murders In The Building. I was on Season 1 Episode 4 and the next thing it was Season 2 Episode2 -

I don't think there would be much blowback. I think the only potential resistance is if they hire Mario and not Rod, it might look racist, unless it comes out that Rod threw the punch. But would Rod be the kind of guy that would overreact to something? -

I worked with two guys, in radio who had a couple of physical altercations and one of them involved throwing hands. Suspended for a week both times and they got along fine after that. The station doesn't exist but they are still friends now. Stuff boils over sometimes. Spending every working day with the same person who knows how to needle you? Not the end of the world. Don't know why anybody needed to expose Rod & Mario's tiff. If they think what happened was so unforgivable (was Mario the puncher or the punchee?) then go rescue Kevin Brown from that ridiculous owner in Baltimore, who, believe me, will screw this thing up for the Orioles by 2025 and have them back in the cellar again.
