It sucks that the Mets can do something stupid like sign a guy for 10 years and $341 million. Now everyone expects to get that deal. Doesn't matter if they play every game or are consistent year after year. That's the price tag now. That doesn't mean the Tigers are going to be as stupid as the Mets. I think we see other teams are also reluctant to make that mistake as well. The pitching market has moved fairly quickly while everyone waits to see what Correa will get.

I think Correa is still number one on Detroit's list but they don't want to bid against themselves either.

Yes but just to confuse things he could sign a two year contract right now and that would nullify his arbitration in 2023 but who's realistically going to do that after the past two seasons of mediocrity? He should have made the adjustments the Tigers wanted him to make but now his best bet is to sign for one year and hope he performs like his first two seasons.

No they don't have to go to arbitration this year because he's a free agent now. If they keep him next year he would be eligible for his third year of arbitration but he will probably end up in the same situation again. Nobody will want to pay for arbitration again and he will be released, go unclaimed and become a free agent. This season he can sign for whatever contract he wants but what are teams realistically going to offer?

Yes but nobody wanted to pay for his second year of arbitration so I doubt anyone will want to pay for his third year. He could have done himself a big favor and listened to the team and batted right handed, making the necessary adjustments to improve his game. Then he might be making three million now but he didn't and he's probably going to have to sign for one million somewhere.

Nobody claimed him this year, so nobody wanted to go to arbitration with him. He would probably get released again after next season unless the team thought he was worth the third year of arbitration (probably not).

A team can sign him to a major league deal this year and then he would be under their control for his final year of arbitration as well. Example: Tony Sipp was released by the Padres in May 2014 when he had between four and five years of Major League service time. The left-hander subsequently signed a guaranteed Major League contract with the Astros that ran through the end of the '14 campaign. Because he finished the season with less than six years of Major League service time, Sipp was eligible for salary arbitration as opposed to free agency. Sipp qualified as a free agent following the 2015 season and re-signed with the Astros on a three-year deal.

I can see Haase getting some playing time in spring training at first base. He and Miggy can handle first until Torkelson is called up. I wouldn't give up a year of control over our top two prospects.

Offer Correa and Seager an opt out after 4 years. They have incentive to play really well and the Tigers pay for their most productive years.

Plus the bat flips and bow and arrow shots all of a sudden become fun when it's your team celebrating.

Lots of question marks there. Who plays short? When does Tork get called up? Miggy happy with full time DH? A lot of players look at him as one of the best all-time. Clubhouse issues? Hill stays healthy? Greene gets called up?

Hopefully their improved approach to sabermetrics can help with that. They definitely need more arms because I don't see much improvement from the defense.

I'm sure they'll add whatever cheap arms they can. They needed a lot of guys this year and not all of them will be back next year.

Just because we sign a shortstop doesn't mean Kreidler can't be useful. We don't have anyone signed long term at second or third.

Barnhart looks like the perfect fit for 2022 and possibly in the mix for 2023 when Rogers is back. Definitely the type of catcher Hinch wants. I wonder how much input he has with the roster. I read it wrong, I thought he had an option for 2023 but the $7.5 million option is for 2022.
