from 1992 to 2002 the tigers drafted 1 player who finished with over 20 WAR for them: bobby "you try and trade him" higginson. inge was close. weaver had a couple good years. and that's it until granderson and then verlander under dd's watch.

matt brunson. selected 9th in the 1993 draft. right before the likes of billy wagner, chris carpenter, torii hunter, and jason varitek. we were such a **** organization.

i have an irrational love for nba summer league.

he's on the last year of his contract before he becomes an unrestricted free agent. he's coming off a down year which, coincidentally, happened as soon as he moved away from patrick kane. he has told ottawa he will not re-sign with them. so they sell him now or get nothing in a year, or wait until the deadline and take a trade for likely a low first round pick. last year he went for #7 and a second rounder. this year he is less valuable than that. he said he'll go to detroit, dallas, nashville, florida, or vegas. only one of those teams has cap space to trade for him. there is zero reason to give up the farm to trade for debrincat. if you want to give up the farm, go get keller or try for kyle connor, two better players signed to cheaper deals. debrincat should not cost that much and i doubt there will be a bidding war. if there is, detroit should pass.

hopefully ausar learns how to shoot and puts on some muscle. we were once the most unathletic team in the league, but weve addressed a lot of that with ivey, duren, and ausar. but we still cant shoot. sasser should help with that. we still are loaded with unproductive bigs on stupid contracts, hopefully weaver can unload bagley/wiseman to some other fool who thinks he can "fix" them. what the team really needs is healthy cade cunningham. if they get that, they might push 30 wins next year. still a ways away from the playoffs. hopefully cade still wants to be here when his contract is up. how long of a leash does weaver have to get to the playoffs? 2 years?

backup point guard still. he's tall and can pass and tries hard on defense. sasser is small for today's nba and is still a rookie. killian will be around for at least one more year.

i was sure jacquez was going to suck as a pro but after the heat drafted him he'll probably be a great role player for them for a decade.

i think youre giving young football players a little too much credit in their contemplation of the basis for rules.

or perhaps a few of the players didnt pay attention? how close do you pay attention when new work rules are announced? and how soon do you forget them? a lot of employees dont really pay attention. i dont know what the nfl did or didnt say, but the fact that a few kids out of college didnt know the rule (or claims they were never told) doesnt surprise me.

i'd do it. i'm not sure who else is bidding. ottawa may just keep him and then trade him at the deadline, but that risks him getting injured or sucking.
