And for our trade capital, I think Max Anderson and Josue Briceno are the most attractive prospects we could move without feeling the loss.

Add in Hamm or another pitcher (I’d like to hold on to Melton cause I suspect we’ll need him this season) and you could command a good player

I don't think anyone would trade the Tigers enough for them to consider including Briceno. I'm not sure why Tiger fans consider him expendable. He isn't a two-way player, like McGonigle or Clark, but he may have the best power bat in the system. Guys with strong potential to hit 35-40 HRs a year don't come along very often. If we must, trade Liranzo before Briceno.

Alcantara is going to be the hottest trade target of the deadline and it would take probably more than one Pipeline numbered prospect to win him, over other suitors. The Cubs in particular are down three starters now in their 2025-or-bust win-now season, and have a ****ton of numbered guys they can offer up in trade. Would you be willing to give them two or more of ours?

When is the last time 2 100 prospects got moved at the deadline for anything less than a Juan Soto type?

I still see that as a bad mark on his historical record and I think a lot of teams felt that way which is why he was available.  I was never angry and I am certainly not angry now.  When all is said and done, I think he may go down as the best Tigers manager ever.

I never thought managers mattered all that much. Last year has me rethinking that assumption, at least a little.

I can never watch these games the Tigers play against the Mariners because they are blacked out for me because I’m in their viewing area and I don’t have cable and I’m not willing to give Root sports $19.99 a month without Cable to watch the Tigers play the Mariners six times a year.

The Mariners viewing era area is very huge and includes Washington, Oregon, Montana, Alaska and much of of Idaho except the eastern part of the state that falls within the Rockies viewing area.

I ended up subscribing to the Root Sports app. I like to watch the Mariners live sometimes after the Tigers finish and this is the only way (unless you go the cable route, which I dumped years ago). Really hate that the Tigers only trip to Seattle this year was in March. But went last night and glad I did.

I've given up on the audio overlay for a bit. got my laptop playing the audio feed and more-or-less synched it to the video (on my TV) manually. shame no one at MLB "Advanced" Media knows how to do that.

My audio on MLB TV broadcast is about 10 seconds behind. Amateur hour.

Casey is frustrating because the big arm is there, but the pitching skills to get the most out of it have yet to come around. He'd be in a stronger position if his pitching had improved as last season progressed with distance from the injuries , but it didn't seem to, and he was another step worse when he came back after the hamstring, which I thought was just an add insult to injury king of thing. How do you pull a hamstring coming off the mound for a pop fly?

Look around the league. Mize is a pretty good 5th starter. In more than 2/3 of his starts he allowed 3 runs or fewer. Handy guy to have around.

    It was a great trade.

It's one thing to trade away a player at the deadline for a top 100 prospect and guy who starts almost immediately for you at SS and then resign him in in the offseason. It's a whole another level of insanely good fortune to also make the playoffs in the same year.

My Grandpa got cancer when I was 4 and I guess at the time in the mid to late 80s Seattle had one of the best Hospitals for cancer treatment so my family uprooted us and moved out there for 4 years. So even though I know from pictures I went to Tigers Stadium first my earliest memory of going to a baseball game was at the Kingdome.

I couldn't readily find his stats, but it's good to remember Chris Shelton was the league's MVP in 2004.  I wasn't able to watch many games back then so I don't have a good sense of why Shelton failed after his historic start.  What the heck happened to one of the hottest rookie starts in Tigers history?

Shelton was not a rookie in 2006. He had 450+ plate appearances the yearbefore as a 25-year-old and posted a 132 OPS+. He started hot in 2006 but faded in June and July and was sent down at the trade deadline. 106 OPS+ in 2006. Only 150 PAs in MLB after that (with Texas and Seattle; 75ish OPS+). Strange decline but also strange some second division club didn't give him 600 PAs to see if he could rediscover his magic.

So I'm just gonna say it.

I think we were lucky as all get out this year to go as far as we did. If we run back this team with 80% of the same players, I think we miss the playoffs next year.....

Having said that, I really hope we improve, especially on the pitching side. Buehler and Flaherty are my top 2 and my dream would be Corbin Burnes. I'm still amazed the Orioles didn't swing for Skubal and after they got bounced, I expect them to LOAD up on pitching this off season via trade (or else I think their GM will get canned if they don't perform well through the season, or if they get bounced in the first round of playoffs again next year). If there's a way to pluck one of their top 5 guys, we need to explore that. Even if that means shipping Vest, Montero or Foley (or literally anyone on our staff not named Skubal)..... Although in all honesty, I'd still be open to moving Skubal for the right price (don't worry will never happen) but I think this year just earned him a 10 year contract from the Tigers......

But seriously though, we need to do this right. Our team has a bunch of B level players and I hope this season wasn't a mirage but I fear it could have been. (I really hope I'm wrong).

I don't think the 86 wins was a mirage. The last two months most definitely was. Before the trade deadline the Tigers were hampered by a few injuries and young player growing pains that depressed the W-L record. If the Tigers had had KC health all season long I suspect they would have finished close to 86 wins even without the super heater in the closing months. I definitely want them to bolster the roster, but if they only tinker with it I wouldn't be surprised if they finish around 85 wins again.

I get the impression reading between the lines of the Harris presser that both are in need of going all-in on the Tigers development plan or won’t be here much longer.

Tork didn’t really buy in until he got sent down, finally ditching the personal hitting coach over what the team see’s. Mize doesn’t have enough spin to rely on his stuff over the poor command he showed this year. He didn’t always seem in full agreement at times with the Hinch plan

My understanding, through secondary sources, is that Tork has consistently resisted making changes that the organization has recommended. Maybe he is beginning to come around.

Manning, Mize and Torkelson. Trade them all for good (per our evaluaters) low level minor leaguers to clear room on the 40. They gave us next to nothing during our run and postseason so they will not be missed so continue to back fill the pipeline.

After Tork returned from minors and Greene the IL, Tork had a 125 OPS+, only one point worse than Greene. So not accurate to say he contributed next to nothing to the playoff run. That's not to say he is a long-term solution at 1B.

In the late 1970s, I was into politically edgy British punk, the Talking Heads, and Tom Waits and didn’t like disco. Now that I’ve gotten older I’m OK with disco and consider it “dance music“ even though when it was then a current trend my friends and I disparaged it as “bourgeois crap.” We were sort of full of ourselves.

I was unhappy with Mr. Hinch in July,   but my gosh............he had TWO starting pitchers down the stretch.  The stretch the Tigers had was one of the greatest managerial jobs I've ever seen and I can think back, critically, to about 1980.

Guess what?   Not every decision he made worked.   That's baseball.  There is no perfect manager.

You're holding him to a ridiculous standard.

He got to the second round of the playoffs with, basically one starting pitcher, a bunch of kids and a couple of journeymen.    The Detroit Tigers do not have a very good roster.    It's okay with some potential but has more holes than your silly post.

AJ Hinch basically did the equivalent of preparing a gourmet meal with nothing but stuff you can buy at 7-11.      This roster, as it stands, had no real business being in the playoffs and I hope the team recognizes this and has an aggressive offseason, because something like this miracle Hinch and Fetter pulled won't happen again

Cleveland simply had better players and after 5 games it showed.

There is promise here going forward, but they must show consistency over the long hall to get back to the postseason again.

I am pretty dismissive of the idea that baseball managers matter. But this year Hinch really challenged my suppositions.

Not a fluke but greatly aided by playing 13 games against the woeful White Sox ( same for KC) that Seattle and Boston didn't have.

This year would you rather play 39 games against the Rangers, Angels and A's or 39 against the White Sox, Twins, or Royals? Maybe a slight preference for the latter but it's pretty close. Boston was certainly at a disadvantage, but they have more resources than any club in Central so no tears for them.

Torkelson was 348 OBP/781 OPS after his return and played solid D, improving his Rdrs from -10 last season to +3 this season.  I don't think the Tigers are as down on him as many fans who only see his season stats that include his terrible early trouble.

Torkelson had a 125 OPS+ after his return so I'm thinking the Tigers are in no hurry to move on from him, especially because his defense also improved.

Gonna leave this here. I was tracking this over the course of the series, and didn't know until tonight that the Guardians actually hired the guy who found this effect. In game 4, I flagged Holton vs. Ramirez and Brieske vs. Fry. If guys like Holton, Brieske, and Vest started leaking oil toward the end of the series, it may be this effect.

A couple of quality starting pitchers, a closer and a 1st base bat. Tork hitting a home run every 3 weeks isn't good enough.

I’ll bet they target a RH hitting power hitter although not necessarily at 1B. Sandanter is intriguing. SH who’s strong from both sides of the plate. 40 HRs this year.  Maybe sell him on learning 1B if Tork doesn’t breakout.
