  1. This would make me lol if it came to fruition.
  2. Can't speak for the TweetER, but the tweet is probably pretty accurate that Jackson will be owed a pretty hefty extension pretty soon.
  3. Aren't players who have played four years included in a retirement plan that includes covered health care expenses for some amount of time?
  4. Feels like Albert Haynesworth all over again
  5. I’m going to withhold judgment until this summer, when we can really reflect back on the off-season plan, but I’ll go on the record with saying I will be disappointed if we don’t add at least one quality starting corner in free agency. I’m not going to say “Jamel Dean or bust” or anything, but I’ll see what they do and then (hopefully) judge that addition for whether I think it was a good pickup. When you draft how Holmes has, you can afford to trust the process a bit more, but at the same time, it would not be fair to throw two rookie corners onto the defense and expect them to start week one. I took the comments to mean more along the lines of “we can find starting talent in free agency that doesn’t make the talking heads at NFL Network lose their mind” than meaning “we aren’t interested in quality free agents because we are busy developing our own guys” … while Jacksonville’s free agent class from last year has worked out okay for them so far, I don’t think throwing money at the wall and seeing what sticks is a good long-term plan for success either. I also don’t think it really matters if he makes these comments. I don’t think there are players or agents who would be upset by them, if they get their money they get their money. It’s not like he is revealing draft strategy. And along the lines of what Hongbit said, I think it maybe discounts player A1, but not the entire A-class.
  6. Really good win! Could have legitimately swept Boston if a bounce or two went their way yesterday. Good to see them hand the Bruins only their 10th regulation loss of the season.
  7. This is stupid. Who are you going to trade with? The Texans have no incentive at this point, and the Cardinals want to go down not up. Unless they want to trade with the Colts, and hope one of their favorites is there at #4 (instead of hoping he’s there at #9?), or wait until the Cardinals trade down and hope someone wants to trade up twice, this is just lip service that admits “maybe we will regret this trade”
  8. He would be an upgrade over what we have at the position but he's not world-beating. I know Cardinals fans have speculated that his struggles come from scheme stupidity more than his abilities, and that he would excel with better defensive coaching. If Campbell and Glenn see that too, I'm open to it. He's also in the same boat of Okudah right now where you will need to make a decision soon about a hefty 5th year option (about $12MM) on a guy who has not really shown himself to be worthy of hefty money. I wouldn't give any sort of high pick for him, but if a future 4th or 5th round pick would get it done, I'd be intrigued.
  9. I don’t have a Freep subscription, but I think this strategy quoted makes sense. Not to say they should ‘rule out’ guys for being too good or too highly rated (and I don’t think that’s what he’s saying), but rather knowing what you’re comfortable spending and having a list of guys who will improve your team in that budget. Worrying more about improvements than the ‘flashy’ signing, kind of like Chark last year.
  10. Sucks if true and kind of nullifies my second point. The Dolphins being the best “fit” and being reported my multiple sources is interesting. I wonder how hard he pushed for Miami and if it turned the Lions away. I trust Holmes to find a Ramsey in the draft though.
  11. Between the whispers of the Rams wanting Ramsey out because of locker room issues, Ramsey’s slight decline last year, and Ramsey wanting to go to Miami (IOW at least not primarily wanting to go to Detroit), I have zero issue with not engaging in the trade discussions. This was very likely not the case of the Lions being “outbid”, but rather Holmes not being interested for one reason or another. That said, I still fully expect the position to be addressed in free agency.
  12. Legal tampering starts in less than 24 hours! Crazy how well the NFL makes by far the shortest season of the sports into a year-round spectacle.
  13. There are just so many good corners in this draft that I think they will trust themselves to find the diamonds that remain in rounds 2 and/or 3. The only exception I could see is if one of those top three corners (Gonzalez/Porter/Witherspoon) takes a Gardner-like leap. Certainly Sauce Gardner is an unrealistic expectation to have for any rookie corner, but if Holmes sees that kind of player in one of them, I could see that player being taken at #6... I don't see that in any of the three right now though.
  14. Two-goal swing courtesy NHL officiating.
  15. I think he was crossed out in pencil even before the drag racing and that incident put it in Sharpie.
  16. I agree. I think it’s more about accuracy and timing of down field passes. Of which Goff isn’t elite, but it’s not some absolutely necessary trait. Whether you can dial up and throw the ball 45 yards or 75 yards really only matters on the Hail Mary final play. So maybe once per season.
  17. I never insinuated that the Bears weren't aware of the cap hit. I said that if I was a fan, I would like not love the move, in part because the WR they acquired has to be paid (i.e., is not on a rookie contract / is not a draft pick). I don't think the Bears management is good, but they're not incompetent. I even agree with your second point. It doesn't stop them from making more moves, it's just something to be considered. It's OK to just disagree with a post or feel you could have made a point better without being a jerk about it.
  18. Should I amend my post to saying that "The deal gets you a good WR (who you will need to pay $20 million)"? The Bears have to pay DJ Moore $20MM... In other words, 9% of the entire 2023 salary cap.... Nothing about my post was incorrect. He is not on a rookie contract and the Bears have to pay him a lot of money.
  19. Browsing the Bears and Panthers boards both sides seem to have a majority who are in favor of the move. If I am a Bears fan, I like this deal, but I don't love it. A deal needed to be done, you could not stay at #1 under any circumstance. The deal gets you a good WR (who you will need to pay) and a 2024 1st that will probably be middle of the road. But also, you only net one additional pick in this draft, when you need talent across the board. The Bears still only have four picks across the first three rounds, and will still be dog shit next year unless they can find plug-and-play talent late, or spend a ton of money in free agency. The Bears may look to move back again, because they just have so many holes. If I am a Panthers fan, I love this deal just as far as I love my team leadership. If I trust my GM to go get the guy, I love this deal. I'm confident that at least one of the four QBs will be a guy who pans out and it's now his job to figure out who that is. My gut says they fall in love with Bryce Young and regret it long-term. If I am a Lions fan, I love it. One more QB going in the top five and one less defense-first team inside the top five. Now let's see either Holmes jump to #3, or a QB-needy team jump to #3. Win-win.
  20. MichiganCardinal Logic: The Panthers-Bears trade happened, so everything else will happen too. 😉
