Week One: Los Angeles Rams (0-0) @ Detroit Lions (0-0)

Campbell said on 97.1 this morning that it wasn’t until Monty’s first run in OT that they decided to see how far that could take us. -

My notes: Ford Field was LOUD. I’ve never before thought about bringing ear plug but I had the thought for future games. It was as loud as a concert. Sean McVay is a really good coach. He’s a douche too, don’t get me wrong. But there’s a reason he was 6-1 on week one. Given time to prepare, he was going to have a solid game plan, and he did. They ran a ton of pre planned routes, where you couldn’t point to any blown coverage, it was just well designed plays to get Kupp open. Sans one flukey play, I thought the defense was really good. They held a good offense to 20 points. You should win most games when you hold your opponent to 20. The offense was rusty, but they’ll get there. I loved seeing Jamo lead the team in targets. There are teams that will effectively limit ASB and LaPorta. Last year, that would lead to a pass to Reynolds for 15. I am confident in Jamo’s ability to fill that hole. I want Hutch to do more in year three. Pass rush rates are great against a practice squad OT, but I need him to consistently finish. In all, I would like to have won this game in regulation. The Rams offense was really decimated. One less 3/out, or taking out that interception, or taking out the fluke 80-yard check down, and we are right there. But it’s the NFL. A win is a win. Plenty to work on. -

The game reminded me most of the Seahawks game last year. Loud crowd for the home opener, mediocre performance against a team with a depleted offensive line whose game plan was just quick dunks down the field. Went to OT and lost last year, went to OT and won this year. Which, even if it's directly related to the coin toss, I'll take it. -

That ball wasn’t remotely close to Kupp. Terrible call. -

That’s their game plan though. They have two backup offensive tackles, they aren’t going to get 5+ seconds to be picky in the pocket. -

They bent a LOT. But no break, and that’s what’s mattered so far. -

I’m sure this was their thought process. As well as that the offensive line can’t let that happen. But still. You’re getting the ball back, take the 10-3 lead to half. -

Goff jogged off gingerly to end the half. They should have taken a knee. -

The first Rams drive was very reminiscent of the Seahawks game last year. -

Havenstein is still questionable for the Rams, but they made this move last night. If Havenstein is out, they'll be missing both starting tackles. -

Colts and Rams are both good to very good. I think the Packers hope would have been to go 3-1 in that stretch. Would be nice to see them go 1-3, but I'd take 2-2. Particularly if the Lions can start 4-1, it'd be nice to get out to an early 2-3 game lead on the division. Chickens before they hatch and all that though.

I was just thinking of him yesterday. One of my least favorite player from this era of Lions football. Maybe second only to Cam Sutton. Mouth wrote checks his talent couldn’t cash, was healthy for only like three games, and he still managed to lead the ski mask debacle.
