Detroit Lions 2024 Offseason Thread
MichiganCardinal replied to Mr.TaterSalad's topic in Detroit Lions
I only care about RAS scores when it benefits my storyline 😆 -
TIL that the Avalanche haven't won a Game 7 since the 2002 Conference semis. Six straight losses, a streak that started in the 2002 7-0 game against Roy. That made me smile.

No definitely not an X. If they've drafted a future X, it's Antoine Green (6'2 / 200). He was a ball hawk at Illinois though. Led the B1G in receptions with 82, 15 more than the next closest receiver. Also had the 15th most receiving yards in the country, including 105 against Iowa's defense. A lone bright spot on a dreadful team and offense. -
Sure feels like whoever scores first will win. Heading scoreless to the 3rd.

Scoreless through 22 and Boston heading to the powerplay. Feels icky rooting for Boston, but when they play Toronto in the playoffs I can make exceptions.

Not to be ignored is that they guaranteed the UDFA WR from Illinois Isaiah Williams $100k. They clearly see something in him and he'll have a chance at the roster. -
I think I would be fine if the edge across from Hutch did that, even if they weren't a natural pass-rusher like Hutch or Houston. The problem last year was that when Charles Harris or either Okwara were on the field, we might as well have had a mannequin across from Hutch. And then they double-team Hutch, and then the QB has all day long.

If we weren’t in the running for Chark at 1/5 I don’t think we are in the conversation for Boyd. I do think there is a chance they like what they have at the position. I think they expect a lot from Jamo in 2024. If that’s the case, you have four very reliable pass catching athletes in ASB, LaPorta, Gibbs, and Jamo. It’s not like we would have put Reynolds in that group last year, he was just a nice commodity to have… Any more than that is just delicious gravy on this offense. A luxury. Which I have no doubt they would have taken in the draft if the situation presented itself, but it didn’t. They’ve still got Kalif, DPJ, and (hopefully) Antoine Green behind that group, which is not a trio completely devoid of talent. -

Not gonna lie, the Golladay comment was a joke. He probably sat out all of 2023 for a reason. Not sure he’s got it in him anymore. He’ll also turn 31 during the season. If Holmes sees something and signs him I’ll be surprised, but I won’t complain. -
I was sent an email from the official Panthers email account server. Officially speaking, I'm a season ticket holder, so that could be why I got the email. I've not attended a game in my season tickets (have sold each game for profit to help pay for Lions season tickets lol), but they probably don't care about that so long as the seats are being used and the people in them are buying beer and food.

Kenny Golladay is still available. -
It's not a hostage situation...... you just have to say yes..... don't you want to say yes??

Relevant for the sake of relevance. They were an afterthought until he came around and I think they just like having people actually watch and care for a change. I wouldn't be surprised if they tire of him though, especially if/when he continues losing and eventually leaves the program worse than he found it while deflecting blame. Hopefully the mainstream media will go away too when his schtick gets old and he isn't winning games.

I have a buddy who is a CU alum and I don't think a lot of them care how crazy he is. He's made them relevant again for the first time in 30 years.

I hope it won't be a non-factor. But Charles Harris + the Okwaras sure were. Davenport + a healthy Houston should be better. Maybe not great, or even good. But better.

If you're Chark it'd probably be nice to win a game or two and be thrown to by Goff instead of Bryce Young too. -
Grading the Detroit Lions Draft - In 2021
MichiganCardinal replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Lions
As long as you keeping hitting drafts out of the park, you can be successful in the NFL. It's when you start whiffing on repeated drafts that you get in trouble, because you either have to pay $90MM to the guys you drafted well four years ago, or you have to let the position go unaddressed. -

They have pictures of him in a casino inside a glass case labeled "break in case of emergency" -
I agree with what I bolded. I agree with the bit about Hutch being better as well, but I think that only works to an extent. If Love or Williams or JJ are able to break out of the pocket and extend a play because Hutch is closing in on one side, and Alim/Reader are collapsing the interior, but the other side is a total non-factor, no secondary in the NFL can be expected to defend receivers for 10+ seconds. But these are likely rich people problems, which is nice to have for a change.

I expect the Lions to still add a WR. Maybe an edge rusher too, but I'm more doubtful of that. I think Tyler Boyd either wants too much or too long. As time goes on, maybe he'll sign a CJGJ-like one-year deal (and actually prove it, unlike CJGJ). DJ Chark makes a ton of sense. Like, as much sense as Kevin Zeitler. Michael Thomas makes sense too between his injury history and Saints-to-Lions connections. -
If I had to say what I thought was the biggest weakness on the Lions right now, I would say it's the edge opposite Hutch. I know they grabbed Davenport, but I'm not sure how reliable he will be. It sure would be nice to see what Hutch could do when teams didn't double team him for once. Maybe it's a part of their master plan to drive his price down next offseason lol They could still grab a free agent on a one-year prove-it. Yannick Ngakoue was not good last year with the Bears but is only a year removed from two straight 9+ sack seasons. Carl Lawson is in a similar boat, but to a slightly lesser extent on the past success. Calais Campbell is available too, but he'll be 38 when the season begins. He might be trying to wait until late in the season to hop on a contender. All three of them might be interested in one-year deals.

I'm very doubtful they pick up a veteran OT unless it is just to compete for a spot in training camp. Eight roster spots on the line are likely accounted for between the starters, Mahogany, Manu, and Skipper... Picking up a veteran OT for more than the veteran minimum would mean they are ready to throw in the towel on both Sorsdal and Awosika before camp even begins. I think those two will compete for the OT3 role with the other getting a practice squad invitation. Skipper is OT4, he's more likely to come in for a jumbo TE set than he is to actually be a regular OT. If we deal with injuries, then you'll hopefully have the other of Sorsdal and Awosika on the practice squad to call up, and can also add a vet at that point. But the rookie additions should allow Sorsdal and Awosika to focus exclusively on the OT position this offseason, which will hopefully relate to at least one of them showing marked improvement.
