Well, if the worst thing we can say about a draft is that we didn’t pick a kicker, we truly have come a long way.

Manu is this season’s Brodric Martin.

I heard Arnold get interviewed on SiriusXM “Moving the Chains” before the draft. Pat Kirwan tests these kids to see how far he can take them with schematic questions. Sometimes it is not far. But he pressed Arnold a long way and raved about his football knowledge. That’s when I started to hope that maybe it might happen.

we’re questioning Holmes? Do it at your own risk.
Questioning? I hope he uses the other four draft picks on CBs.

Got their two top ranked CBs in the draft.

This team will be significantly better than the one that went to the NFC Championship game last year.

I disagree that it wasn't a position of need. It was a position of need when they had Sutton and Davis. They lose Sutton and it became a bigger position of need. The Lions also have no depth at safety after Joseph and Melifonwu. Now they can move Branch to safety.
That's why I put need in "". The point was that it would be easy for the media or fans to complain that the team doesn't "need" (in "") a CB because they just drafted one, traded for another, and re-signed Moseley. But Brad is so secure that he doesn't give that stuff a second thought. And yes, I agree that when you are rolling out five or six DBs, and you factor in injuries, there is almost always a need here.

Let's replay the NFC Championship game now.

This is the pick of a guy who DNGAF. He is very secure in his status with the front office, he is very secure in his relationship with the coaching staff, and he is very secure in the roster he has constructed. All of these allow him to take a player at a position they don’t “need” but who fits their player profile perfectly.

Roger Goodell just shook my hand.
I yelled out “I love you Roger!” And he said “weren’t you the one booing me earlier?”
He reported that he shook the hand of TP Fan.

It's not sexy but for round 2 I'd like some Frank Ragnow insurance.

They have their cornerstone pass rusher. If they move up I presume it would be for a cornerstone CB. Most mocks have Mitchell and Arnold gone before 20, which according to the draft value chart would probably require picks 29, 61, and another. Not a fan, especially since McKinstry or Wiggins may be available at 29. But Arnold is a high character Alabama prospect which is a pedigree that appeals to Brad and Dan.
They got their high character Alabama prospect and kept their second round pick. Gave up two thirds in addition to the first to massively upgrade both outside corner positions. Seems reasonable.

Sheila is not much bigger than one of Dan Campbell’s legs.

#1 defensive player — not CB or even DB — on Detroit’s board.

They must really like him.

Brad is cooking…

This one has Detroit trading back to 36 with Washington and picking up picks 100 and 139.

SI: Among the teams exploring a trade up are the Detroit Lions, who are sitting at 29. After two consecutive years of multiple first-round picks (which brought them Aidan Hutchinson, Jameson Williams, Jahmyr Gibbs and Jack Campbell), the Lions are likely looking for an edge opposite Hutchinson, or perhaps another corner.

i wonder if the lions will retire stafford's number?
Plot twist: Yes but for Jameson Williams. 😉

It may not be economically feasible for the Jets to stay in Winnipeg, but if 40% of your players come from Canada, it is good for your league to be well represented in Canada.

I think Lalonde has a beef in that part of the problem on defense is that their puck pursuit needs an injection of speed/energy and maybe younger legs would be an upgrade in that direction. Young players make mistake that often lead very obviously to goals, but that can't be the only thing you look at because the goal that doesn't get scored because your player beat the opponent to a lose puck at the half board in the D zone is never tallied. OR, to accomplish the same thing, Lalonde has to get his players playing as mad as Scotty used to......😡
Agree. It just seemed reckless of Lalonde to say he had pushed SY to promote players faster. He won’t win any fights with SY and he is in no position to be picking them.
-
Interesting to see SY call out the coaching staff on team defense. Also Lalonde hinted that he pushed SY to promote players and SY claimed not to know what Lalonde was talking about. I read this as Lalonde squirming a bit and SY discreetly telling Lalonde he has one year to get team defense right.
