While we wait for Cam Sutton to turn up somewhere, one of Holmes first moves or non moves.

Talk about Sutton being hard to find… the Giants couldn’t find Golladay even though he was in their huddle.

Which again is part of the problem. This makes sense legally speaking, but optically the narrative is this guy threw his gf out a third story window and now is evading police... but the Lions are still employing him? Still paying him? Do they not care about women!?!? Do they not care about stopping domestic violence?!?

No it’s not part of the problem. The Lions are not guilty of anything.

And what are they paying him? There are no games so there are no game checks. He may have a roster bonus or a workout bonus that kick in near training camp but those are unlikely to be earned at this point.

Which again is why I want that other special status... Based on what info is being thrown around it certainly seems likely that there's fire tied to this smoke. But we don't know for sure, and independent of this situation there may be other situations where it's less clear if there's fire or not.

A team is in a catch-22... if they cut the player and he's found innocent, they potentially lost out on his talent. The player gets a public black eye because he was cut and losing out on his salary.

But if a team doesn't cut the player right quickly and he's found guilty the team gets the black eye for paying and associating with a bad individual.

A temporary status protects the teams and the players and the image. "We're temporarily disassociating ourselves from this player until all the facts are known and he has his day in court. If he's guilty, he's gone and doesn't get back pay. If he's innocent he's restore to full status and gets his back pay."

They won’t cut him until the legal process plays out and they can point to the player as having violated personal conduct provisions.

This statement kills the narrative any Sutton defenders are putting out there.............

"We tried to make contact with (Sutton)," Martello said. "We've called him, no answer. He's been ducking us. Our deputies have exhausted all leads here. He's got vehicles and a home in a county one over from us and he's not been there and we've not been able to catch him there. So, again, it seems like he's turned his phone off or gotten rid of his phone or something because we haven't been able to get ahold of him."

It would be very surprising if deputies have not also been in contact with the suspect’s employer.

Important note on the Justin Fields trade: At least four additional teams inquired about trading for Fields, but Fields’ representation asked for him not to be traded there. He wanted the #Steelers, and the #Bears did right by him.

Important context, though it is hard to imagine Chicago accepting a 6th if someone came in offering a 2nd or 3rd. This is the Chicago front office trying to put a good face on getting roasted in this trade.

Yes please! I keep coming here to check for some kind of move and have to wade through pages of meaningless bickering….

I saw five new pages of posts since I checked this morning and assumed we must have acquired Mack. Imagine my surprise.

Good for him.   We paid him $6.5 and he ended up doing very little.  Getting 3 years $33M after that season is great work from his agent.   Danielle Hunter should ask for his number in 2 years.

Philly's defense fell apart without him. This is a Hail Mary.

There aren’t a lot of positions where the premier talent is going to be available at #29, but guard is one.

That said, I would be surprised if the Lions go into the draft without picking up a capable LG. They went into 2023 with six starting offensive linemen, which is what allowed them to transition seamlessly to Glasgow after Vaitai went down.

Pigeon holing yourself to take a guard in the draft because it’s a glaring hole just doesn’t seem like Holmes’ MO at all.

I agree with this. I would be surprised (and concerned) if Holmes does not sign a proven NFL talent to start at LG next season. If not, you are basically tying your hands in the draft, and you are assuming that the player you are drafting has to be capable of starting in the NFL right away. And what we've seen from Awosike or Sorsdal makes them suspect even as backups.

Exactly the kind of guy we have come to expect Brad Holmes to acquire via trade or FA.

Also exactly the scenario we have come to expect of him, buying low on a guy with an injury history.

The only source I’ve seen reporting the pick number is Sportrac which says it is pick 73. So Holmes is not buying as low as I initially heard. Yes, that 73rd pick could turn into a good player, but I think they feel they are good enough that they don’t want to wait half a season for a 3rd round rookie CB to unseat the Kindle Vildors of the world. At worst Davis is a significant upgrade in Week 1 over what they were running out at CB2 last season. At best they also find a long term answer in the draft.

Has it been confirmed that he will be out for atleast the beginning of the season? Considering he got injured in October or early November it seems like he should be ready by the start of the season.

Agree with what you're saying though just didn't think he was gonna be out that long.

I haven’t heard an official timeline but he played a year and a day after his previous ACL tear. Will he recover from this one faster? Maybe. Slower? Maybe. But I don’t think Holmes is or should be assuming that Moseley will be ready for the start of the season.

  11. Moseley won’t be ready to start the season, he might not be ready until halfway through the season, and at this point he is a toss up to finish the season. No, he will not be CB 1 or 2. He is a bet by Holmes who likes to buy low on injured players.

  12. Seems like their free agent strategy has been similar to their coaching strategy. Sign a bunch of credible names at reasonable salaries and let things sort themselves out.

I don’t think for a minute that they were or are satisfied with their CB room. But as Michigan Cardinal points out, the only difference maker at that position they could get  in the draft was a slot guy.

Holmes has not been shy about moving up to get his players. Will be interesting to see if he moves up to fill the corner need, which is overwhelmingly the team’s greatest weakness.

I’ve gotten these surveys before. Never knew they went to something like this.

I’ve always rated them highly but leave comments that I want mobile vendors with hot dogs so I don’t have to stand in a 15 minute line for a dog. But do they listen?? Noooooo.

Every seat needs a pneumatic tube that can deliver a hot dog directly.

This approach was pretty easy to see watching him patch holes in via FA before the draft last yr.

Probably why they were so patient with, and publicly supportive of, Cam Sutton. They knew what they were getting. They knew his strengths and weaknesses, and they knew they might have to put him in some difficult positions and let him do the best he could.
