one report I read along the way said Clark's frame was already nearly maxed out (no pun intended). I assume that kind of assessment entails a fair amount of guesswork given all the genetic variability in the population, but FWIW I suppose if that person was right he would be closer to his power than a kid expected to fill out more?

FWIW fangraphs scouting report list his raw power at 40/45 and in game power at 20/45.

Imagine you're the Giants bullpen catcher and this happens.

Fortunately he caught the ball in the dark, but not a great situation. I imagine some intern may received a stern talking to. (If indeed it was an intern in charge of the lights)

I'm lost...what is the spotlight? And why is this the first time he's doing it? Is it some new things the Giants are doing?

You never know. He might start pulling the ball more and at least move a runner over. You don't need your best hitter hitting 2nd, you just need someone who can handle the bat. So far, I've seen Canha pull too many ground balls to the pull side at important, situational, times. Keith is worth trying, but so are a few other hitters. (Greene)

Keith has both a higher GB% and pull% than Canha. Canha is hitting more GB than he normally does so far, but for his career he hits less GB than the MLB average.

Keith also has a .444 OPS on the season.

Also, you absolutely want one of your 3 best hitters in the #2 spot.

Really what's happening is Canha had one bad AB where he GIDP in extra innings against the Mets and you're basing everything upon that one AB and burying your head in the sand and ignoring all the evidence that shows your take and opinions are blatantly incorrect. Literally all the things you say Canha lacks for the #2 spot are legitimate strengths of his game.

IDK if I see it as necessarily thin skinned, it could as easily be trying to have some fun with it - Red Pill/Blue Pill, Yin/Yang

they rested him today - and got shut out. 😱

Correct, those cleats are no way indicative of being thin skinned.

We don't know how Keith would perform hitting 2nd. Position in the lineup makes a huge difference. But whatever, the Tigers front office just wants to field a team, outcomes make no difference. We're not expecting to win.

It absolutely does not make a huge difference lol.

Batting 2nd? Or overall? And past performance is in no way a predictor of future results. I would bat Keith 2nd, maybe the kid will take off and we would have a 2 hole hitter for several years.

Its a rate stat, not a counting stat, so whether second or overall is irrelevant.

And replacing our third best hitter with one of our worst at the top of the lineup is honestly one of the worst suggestions I've seen on this board.

Greene leading off doesn't bother me, it's Canha hitting 2nd. The guy just isn't a 2 hole hitter, too pull happy, rolling over grounders to the left side. A double play waiting to happen.

Fortunately there is actually a stat to measure that. And it turns out that you're wrong. He's basically average at avoiding GDP every single year, and +2.5 for his career overall.

  8. Botch back to back double plays to give the Twins their second run. Not getting an out on the bunt, and then give up 3 runs on an error there. Add in Carpenter not going first to third on a single to right in the bottom of the 11th.

Just can't do that. This team is gonna be in a lot of close games, they need to be a team that wins because they execute the little things.

Just got back from the dog park a the box score tells me the Tigers have struck out 12 times in 5 innings. AYFKM?

Season long offensive struggles not withstanding, this is more of a great pitcher just in the zone than anything IMO.

Jobe got lit up for 4 in the 3rd inning.

A dropped pop up, and then a routine grounder where they dropped the pitch to second. Ump also screwed him with a terrible call that would've resulted in a strikeout and but instead ended up a walk. Then he he struck the fourth batter out before being pulled.

If Pipeline is to be believed, by the time Avila was shown the door, he brought the system down from an A to a D+. I would call that going backwards.

You see that part where it says they were ranked #2 in the preseason prior?

Could you be more disingenuous when it comes to anything involving Avila?

Like any of these picks, whether they are mistakes or not are subjective, and it takes a lot more track record for each of these players to make a determination.

If the drafted player reaches the majors and is a quality player there, the pick was a success. The odds of any one pick being the best possible pick are far too small for there to be any reason to compare who you got with somebody who was drafted after.

Only 6 innings in AA. He needs experience against top bats. A good example is Grayson  Rodriguez. Everybody thought he was ready, but he wasn't.

Grayson Rodriguez is a good example for pushing Jobe to the majors as fast as possible. If you are dominating in the minors you keep pushing until they fail. If they struggle in the majors you can send them back down, just like with Grayson. And Grayson overall had a very promising year in the majors.

I don't think Manning has been especially impressive when he has been on the field.  He certainly has shown flashes, but has not sustained anything for more than few weeks and has low strikeout rates.  I was more impressed with what Olsen did last year than anything Manning has done.

Agreed, and Mannings statcast data is not good either.

The only hope I have with Manning is that he can be a durable innings eater, which he hasn't come close to doing. But he does have the frame and build that looks capable of being a guy that can go out and give you 200 IP.

A back of the rotation guy that can give you a mid 4 ERA is valuable, especially when that guy is cheap and under team control. But that's about all I'd hope for out of him at this point.

I know it's not easy finding a two way player but it sure would be nice to actually have one prospect that we could feel good about with the bat and the glove. They don't need to be gold glove caliber or anything but just somebody that you could feel confident in that they can handle their position along with being able to hit.

Greene would probably be the closest to that in the past 15 or so years but even he had some questions about how he would handle center and in turn how well the bat would play if he got moved to a corner spot. But other than that every bat we've had seems to come with major defensive question marks, like not small question marks but like "they may need to be a DH" type question mark.

There was really no question about how Greene's bat would play at a corner. He was a top 5 pick when nobody was really expecting him to be anything more than a passable defender in a corner spot. His bat was always projected to play anywhere.

And Clark certainly fits the mold of a two way player, though he's still got a ways to go.
