Tork gave the horn’s hand Satan salute when he hit that home run. Maybe it means something else in baseball.

His college mascot was the Sun Devils, so it might be related to that.

No GM is gonna bat 1.000, and as we're finding out, Avila was above average wrt to the draft. I seem to remember a number of analysts suggesting that Jace would be the better of the Jung brothers, too.

I only read the opposite, that he wasnt as good of a prospect as Josh.

And there’s no reason to collude.  This isn’t a mutual benefit. If some team wants that garbage and PR headache… so be it. It doesn’t affect the other teams. It’s not like he’s Ohtani or Skubal or Skenes.

More than just the PR, he's also a locker room cancer. And he's not a CY Young level pitcher anymore, his talent is nowhere near enough to justify the headache.

Wow, a ump threw a guy out for tapping his helmet?   If you can't even take that gesture, you have no business umping in the Majors.  What a baby.

Tapping the helmet to signal a challenge is an automatic ejection. That's on the player.

Is James Wood the next MLB superstar?

22 years old with a big frame and a great swing.    This kid has a future as bright as anyone in the game and I’m not sure many fans even know what he’s doing right now.

We also need to start talking about adding the Juan Soto Padres trade to the worst in history list.

Padres got a little over a season of Juan Soto and 2 months of Josh Bell.

    Nats got:

James Wood - currently top 10 in HR/RBI/OPS

CJ Abrams - Starting SS and all star last year

Mackenzie Gore - Solid LHP starter currently leading MLB in K’s

Robert Hassell - mid prospect CF but he’s up in the bigs currently.

Jarlin Susana is big armed pitching prospect they see as possibly a future elite MLB closer.

Making the trade even better, Josh Bell signed back with the Nats and is at least ar the moment their starting 1B.

Padres also got Michael King out of it when they traded Soto to the Yankees.

I was thinking ~June 1 for Clark/McGonigle/Briceno to move to Erie, but McGonigle only has 50 PAs in Lakeland and WM. maybe he does not go when Clark and Briceno go, but his performance has been great. maybe Liranzo + Briceno is not ideal at Erie, but they raked in the AFL as teammates.

169 wRC+ with only a .259 BABIP is pretty good.

Walks more against LH pitchers? He's at almost a 50% strikeout rate. Yeah, small sample size...bla bla bla. Riley is among lead leaders in strikeouts. He's still a very young player and it IS a small sample size but at this point, it's not very impressive.

Please stop referring to 40% as "almost 50%."

  8. 16 minutes ago, Sports_Freak said:

With this sample size, I could see Hinch moving him down in the order, at least. Maybe even a day off to start the game?

Move down in the lineup, no. When he wants to give Riley a day off it will be against a lefty, but he's not going to platooned against lefties the way Carpenter is.

50+ games in and it appears that yet again, MLB has secretly changed the baseball.   Hard hit balls, barrels, and exit velocity percentages are all up from last year yet HR’s are down over 25%.

Maybe it’s an attempt to keep soaring batter contracts down,  maybe it’s their gambling partners making more money on HR props than pitching ones, maybe it’s a quality issue at the Rawlings facility in Costa Rica.  Maybe these are all just tinfoil and MLB is still tweaking things to find their ideal new baseball.

At least that's a good change.

Well, generally speaking I'm willing to forgive it since it went against the Dodgers, but I don't think it's a good precedent otherwise....:classic_laugh:

He made the same call against the Mets in the same game as well I believe.

I don't remember the Tigers trying a straight steal with one of our slowest runners. But OK, while I don't agree with it, I see your opinion. Like I said, we'll ll never know unless they're asked.

Torres has 4 SB on the year. So they've had him straight steal plenty.

  12. 5 minutes ago, Sports_Freak said:

Yeah, OK. One of the slowest Tigers attempting a steal and was out by 20 feet. I would say it was an obvious missed hit and run sign but we'll never know unless Hinch is asked about it

The Tigers send the runners on steals with two outs regularly. And because Hunch is not an incompetent moron we can safely assume he did not call a hit and run on a 1-2 count when the pitcher is likely going to try and get Greene to chase a pitch.

Torres has 4 SB on the year BTW, so it's incredibly asinine to act like they would never send him.

Also, the Tigers would rather have Torrest thrown out stealing than have Riley batting in a 1-2 count with 2 outs.

  13. 25 minutes ago, Sports_Freak said:

It was a 1-2 count that Greene took. I looked it up. Torres reaction was not a straight steal. He was out by a mile.

It was a 1-2 count when Torres went. It was very obviously a straight steal, he just had a bad jump.

  14. Tyler Mattison will comeback from his TJ and be a double digits strikeout guy out of the pen down the stretch. Then add in Jobe being converted to a high leverage RP for the playoffs and we'll have the best postseason bullpen performance in MLB history this year.

listening to a little bit of Tiger Territory this morning.   First, if you have the same IP/geo as me you get to hear that Biden is responsible for the cost of everything because of lawsuit abuse which I know I've bitched about before...how are they still running that ad?

Second...they are talking up Riley Greene for MVP but noted he's a bit too low on personality and might want to brand himself a bit more.  That got me thinking.   What is up with this team being on the same trajectory as the Lions and having all sorts of the same grit and none of the players are anywhere near the love or media presence as the Lions.

Maybe they are still metaphorically in between the Lions second Dan Campbell season (ended with interception of Aaron Rogers last pass as a Packer) and first playoff run in terms of success in the life cycle of this rise of the team.

Because the NFL draft has more viewers than the world series.

I love the story, which I think is fake, that it was Ilitch who suggested they get Cabrera.  Like the whole crew is just sitting around and in comes Mike "Hey, I was reading that Florida wants to trade Miguel Cabrera... we should get him."

Mike Ilitch probably didn't know who Cabrera was.

I read that the Marlins approached the Tigers at the winter meetings and asked if they'd be interested. Both sides then went to a hotel room and knocked out the details.
