Carpenter and Rogers have to raise their level to help out while Tork and Keith figure out what they are.

True, although while a team is waiting for the young core hitters to mature in the coming years, they still have to put good hitters in the lineup this year.
I agree...but he's not a solution beyond 2025.

Canha is a nice 35 year old hitter. But he was supposed to complement a team with emerging young hitters. He isn't a guy you are keeping around beyond another year. It still comes down to the development of the young 'core' hitters on the current roster.

The Tigers operate on very thin margins because they have so many dead spots in the lineup. They cannot afford to make any mistakes on defense or in pitching execution.
Until the offense improves, we are going win and lose toss up games because it's hard to win all of them. This is one of those times.

Canha is unavailable due to illness.

Jim Adducci played a lot of positions.

This is our biggest problem. Guys that are not MLB ready. How many contenders have multiple 25 man players that can't hit MLB pitching?
We're not a contender.

The K's have been Parker's problem all through his career. He seemed to have turned a corner on that last season which is what got him called-up. Regression strikes again.
The strikeouts are fine if he has a .200 average.

Bless You Boys on Meadows/Vilade
QuoteEither way, this is mainly about trying to get Meadows enough consistent plate appearances to get on track, and to get another right-handed bat into a lineup that is having trouble matching up against lefties, and is obviously having trouble of all sorts beyond that. We’ll see if they can catch a hot hand in Vilade for a little while, but in general, there’s no one likely to ride to the rescue from Toledo at this point.
Good summary on the Meadows demotion.

The bar is very low here...but we've seen with guys like Tyler Nevin that sometimes the 4A types can't even hit a .600 OPS.

Meadows is being optioned tomorrow(Evan Petzold).

Three times in the last 7 games they have lost 2-1.
Cardinals, Yankees, Tribe.

1-9 with RISP...that's about right.

Andre Lipcius is hitting .320 with 9 HR in Triple A. Wasn't good enough for us, though.
How much evidence do we need to say that AAA and spring training stats don't matter?

Asking your starters to pitch with no margin for error is rough.
-
Jeez they have so many guys you can pinch hit for after Carpenter.

This hurts a team that has like 3 rallies a game:

I don't know what his ceiling is at this point.... but I do think he is capable of turning it around.
Regardless, I don't see how he recovers his standing with the fanbase even if he does turn it around. To borrow a phrase from contemporary politics, it's appears to have gone beyond "frustration" into "negative polarization" with a lot of folks, at least on Twitter IMO
I think we all way too online. The social media impact on this minimal. If he has a good month, everything turns around. And people's expectations are so low that just a little improvement will be spun as positive.

Frankly, I hope he's not listening to anybody on Twitter.... the amount of anger he generates, geez, even if he turns it around I'm not sure he'll ever be accepted here.
I'm pretty sure that Tork won't have a high ceiling. I just need him to be decent for a year or two until they figure out how to replace him. The worst case scenario is being an unplayable boat anchor.

Another life and death low scoring game...where the starter isn't rewarded.
