  1. Good for him. Maybe he should pay his rent and his barber now. Either way, I don't see him coming back to Detroit: -He'd have to accept 7.2M where a few other teams could give him 14M. -Detroit has other players on larger contracts who will be expecting minutes (Robinson/Lavert) and returning players who will need more minutes than last year (Ivey, Thompson, Holland). -Even other teams who can offer him the same 7M make more sense because then he could get the 25-30 mpg he needs to prove his way into a bigger/longer contract next offseason. Here he won't get those minutes.
  2. The schedule is out. Tough first 5 games to start to the season. They could wind up 2-3 or even 1-4. Levels out a bit in the next 5 games. at Bulls - W at Rockets - L Celtics - Coin Toss Cavs - L Magic - L Mavericks (Mexico City) - Coin Toss at Grizzlies - Coin Toss Jazz - W at Nets (cup) - W at 76ers - Embiid Toss Could be as low as 3-7 or as high as 7-3. My guess is they wind up 5-5 .
  3. Going to laugh when fan voting puts him into the All-Star game even if he only plays 5 minutes a night during the season.
  4. As our 3rd string vet PG, I'd be fine with it. But Del's right, he really can't be counted on to play a lot so you're still really banking on Ivey becoming a better PG when Cade if off the court.
  5. Wait, he tore his achilles. So, they're paying him 14M next year to rehab and then another 28M for 2 years after that when he'll be trying to come back from an achilles tear at 36+ years old? Yea, that's going to work out well. Just give him the vet minimum to retire a Blazer.
  6. Neither were going to make 300 threes this year because Ivey's return will mean less shots, so that's not even a comparison that matters as you said. Regardless of that, it's an upgrade over Beasley for this coming year because Duncan gives you the same movement shooting and gravity while providing more in the other areas I've already mentioned - much better FT%, more size, better passing, higher IQ, better at moving off-ball, and a more efficient player. They're in the same tier of player, but Duncan is clearly the more complete player and size does matter in the NBA as well. I was so glad when the rumors about Schroeder leaving became reality. The fan base went into that Marvin Bagley and Simone Fontecchio world where they overvalue the contribution of a half-season rental because the alternatives (Sasser) were so bad. Let's be real about what Dennis was. He shot 30% from three and 37% from two, but that didn't stop him from chucking them up there. His eFG was a horrendous 44% and is 47% for his career. He's not a good defender although he flails around a lot to make him look like a try-hard. He's constantly exposed due to being a midget on the court. Not saying Lavert is a world-beater, but he has better size, shooting, defense, efficiency (crazy as that is to say), and shot creation. Would've been nice to get a backup 4, but anyone playing the backup PF minutes who isn't Fontecchio is going to be an upgrade, whether that's Holland, Ausar, or Stew.
  7. It's hilarious because they dug their own grave by trying to create a super-team that everyone could see wouldn't work. But, I'll give them some credit for owning it and just pulling the plug. At this point I'd do the same and happily lock up 10% of my cap to move on from this disaster.
  8. Close enough, but I'd consider it a slight uptick rather than a slight downtick. Maybe the moves Orlando and Atlanta made results in a net downtick, but I wouldn't say it's a downtick based solely upon the Piston's offseason. Robinson is a slight upgrade on Beasley (bigger, smarter, better handle, better off-ball mover, better FT%, better passer) Lavert is a slight upgrade on Schroeder (bigger, better shooter, more switchable defender, better shot creator) Ivey is an upgrade on THJ (I don't have to explain this) You expect most of these young players to progress in some way, even if it's a small uptick from experience. Most notably, Ausar, who gets a full offseason and can play day 1. I agree though, would've been nice to add a solid vet PG, a PF, and an upgrade on Paul Reed. I'm assuming Trajan wants to see the whole team together fully locked in under JB's system from the day 1 and make moves accordingly during the season with the flexible contracts, trade exception, and all his picks intact.
  9. Then there's clearly a disconnect between the NBA League Office/Marketing Department and the coaches.
  10. If you take one thing away from Summer League it should be that Bobi Klintman isn't your backup PF in 2025. Maybe he develops down the line, but you can't go into the season thinking he's going to be the guy. While the passing is fun, the turnover rate is way too high to go along with it. Plus, it won't be his role in the NBA anyway. He needed to show that he could knockdown the open three, attack a closeout, finish at the rim, and defend. I saw none of that.
  11. It's an indictment of Summer League that this has become the perception when a guy plays more than a game or two. The whole point is for these young players to play.
  12. That's why I watch the games. I'm talking about the eye test. The stats are just there to back that up.
  13. That's where I'm at as well. I was thinking about the Sasser spot for him. He's bigger, more of a true PG, plays some solid defense, and seems to have really improved his outside shot.
  14. Is it time to start talking about Daniss Jenkins?
  15. Nice game from Ron. He looked like a man among boys even though he just turned 20. So disruptive on defense and he was good on the glass too. Still a little out of control at times, but he can get to the paint at will. And more importantly the three ball looked really good. One game is a tiny sample size, but they talked about how that's been a focus for him this offseason and how he's working with Vinson a lot. Holland with a good three point shot would be a game changer for this team. It would mean you can play Ausar and Ron together and just watch opponents cry. Klintman has some really nice passing skills and his handle is pretty solid for a big man as well. I still need to see it come together against real NBA talent to believe it fully, but there might be a rotation player in there with some more development.
  16. For sure, and he has much better form. But every offseason we get videos of players draining threes on an empty court. I wouldn't read too much into it. It's also just not a part of JB's system on offense. Stew is a perfect example of that fact.
  17. We saw those same videos with Drummond every year too.
  18. Stealing Herb Jones or Trey Murphy away from NO would've been huge. Maybe Weaver has two brain cells left if he's keeping those two.
  19. Could be a heavily protected 2nd. That way you don't really give up anything. You just have to include something in order to make the trade.
  20. Wonder if the holdup is that the Pistons are shopping Monk to see if they can move him along to someone else as part of this S&T for Schroeder. At least I hope that's the hold up and that we aren't serious about adding Monk to this roster.
  21. Whitmore traded to the Wizards for 2 second round picks.
  22. I feel like he's the new Doc Rivers. Not a good coach but everyone thinks he is for some reason.
  23. I'm basing it on what I'm hearing from Kyle Metz (who is apparently a Pistons cap guru) on a podcast. I suppose it could be wrong, but he seems to know his stuff. I guess we'll find out in 4 days when all of these things become official.
  24. With the moves the Pistons have made they still have the choice to approach this from two directions: Stay Over the cap: Kings have structured the Schroeder deal in a way that allows for it to be a S&T. This could give us a trade exception or allow us to bring in a player from the Kings or even rope in a third team. Go Under the cap: We would still have the 8M Room Exception to use.
  25. After initially being super unhappy about this (mostly about missing out on NAW), your viewpoint is exactly how I've started to view it as well. And honestly, through that lens it's...fine. Not great, just fine. Robinson might actually be a tiny upgrade over Beasley. Gives you the same movement shooting in a taller frame so he can play multiple positions. Both bad defenders for different reasons, but Beasley is actually a bit worse because Robinson is a smarter team defender who knows where to be and how to rotate (he's just slow footed). Beasley was always lost off ball. Duncan is also a better rebounder, passer, cutter, and a nearly 90% free throw shooter. Good, tradeable contract too. Levert versus Schroeder (or THJ if people prefer to make that comparison) might be a bit better as well. I was done with THJ and there's not much more to say about that because it's obvious how bad his defense was and how little he offered when it wasn't that one game out of 10 where he was on fire from three. As for Schroeder, he's a poor 3 point shooter and even though he tried hard he was just too small on defense. Levert isn't lighting it up from three but he's better than Schroeder in that regard. He's also a bigger body on defense which is helpful. And he gives the team some much needed shot creation when Cade isn't on the floor with a good assist to turnover ratio. We'll see if he can keep up the offensive efficiency he had last year, because that's always been the big problem with him...not that Schroeder was very efficient either. Oh, and dumping Tek's contract is a bonus here. Every minute he's not on the court is going to be an upgrade from last year whether it's Ron, Ausar, or even Duncan playing those minutes. It's too early to say, but I think I'll enjoy seeing Lanier play over Sasser (hopefully) as well. His college numbers are pretty crazy (pulled from Woodward Sports): 2nd in nation in ppg off of screens, 4th in jump shot ppg, 95th percentile on unguarded C&S 3s, 94th percentile in isolation ppp, 82nd percentile in transition ppp, 84th percentile in halfcourt ppp, 91st percentile ppp in cuts. He could be a solid role player. None of this moves the needle in a huge way, but it actually does feel like a tiny improvement over the guys we had last year. It's disappointing because I was hoping for a real improvement on the margins and we didn't get that, but it takes two to tango in free agency. The sad part is that we'll probably slip down the ranking because other teams have improved. There's always the trade deadline I suppose...
