  1. I mean, if the money is king to him he could be one of those guys that demands a trade and threatens to sit out. He doesn't have the Harden clout, but I'm sure Detroit doesn't want to bring back a player that absolutely doesn't want to be here. Or maybe I'm just hoping that's what happens. Duren + Lavert for Sabonis + 2 firsts. Flip the picks for something else.
  2. They've answered the call for shooting and maybe some creation if you count a rookie. But they're also going to be conducting a science experiment to see how many positions Ausar can guard at once. They've also kept the contracts pretty flexible and tradeable for the future. Not going to say I'm loving it, but these are smart moves when the players you want are refusing to come here and GMs don't want to trade the players you're after.
  3. It was announced that Detroit was in the final running but he chose to go elsewhere.
  4. I would've taken this deal for Duren in a heartbeat. But the Lakers were smart and went with the better defender and the guy who wasn't asking for 40M+. Now we're stuck with Duren who's going to pout because he didn't get a big enough bag of money.
  5. Decent upgrade over Tobias on a team friendly contract. Better 2PT%, 3PT%, Rebounds, and blocks. Worse on turnovers and fouls. Having a 40% three point shooter taking all those threes Tobias missed (or passed up) in the playoffs would've been huge. Not the sexy move everyone is waiting for, but Trajan is at least keeping these contracts flexible in case some player actually wants to play here at some point in the future and they can finally make a bigger move.
  6. Agreed. Exactly what I was saying earlier.
  7. Hearing that the Pistons were a finalist for Dean Wade but he decided not to come here. Same thing happened with Kawhi who said he'd only go to Toronto or SA. These are just the ones we've heard about. I'm not happy with the lack of movement to truly improve this team, but how angry can I be if everyone we try to get in FA doesn't want to come to Detroit and other GMs don't want to make trades?
  8. It doesn't matter what year the picks are for if Trajan is just rerouting them to get another player in here. It won't happen but I'd have no problem with letting them take Duren into their cap space and give us picks in return. Best part would be imagining how terrible LA's defense will be with Luka, Reeves, and Duren trying to cover for them. That would be pure comedy.
  9. Offer sheet may make more sense for the Lakers in a dream situation where we let it happen, but it just doesn't work that way in reality. No team wants to tie up all their money for the first few days of free agency when they know we can just match. We may not want to, but I doubt we let him walk for nothing and they know that. Their best chance at acquiring him is a S&T. It also lets them know what they're doing with free agency rather than a big fat question mark for a few days and then scrambling to pick up the pieces.
  10. Add a little more to the deal and bring back Gafford. Just like that you've replaced Duren for less than half the money and got better on defense.
  11. I expected no less. This is his last chance to hold up the NBA offseason and make it all about him.
  12. New Orleans probably has a roster spot.
  13. The last few days have been quite the emotional rollercoaster. Happy, sad, happy, sad. For the record, the happy moments were when the stories came out about Duren seeking a S&T and the sad ones were Omari's posts. He's could be wrong, but Vecini said a Sabonis deal was possible with the inclusion of Robinson. I also agree with him that I'd take Sabonis (2 year deal) and picks over Duren (4-5 year deal). Then take those Sacramento picks, add matching salary, and maybe a pick or two of your own, and go pay that TMIII tax.
  14. I think the investigation was related to his time on the Bucks, but a few of those playoff games from last season should probably be investigated as well. Maybe he wasn't just bad in the playoffs like people think, maybe that was just the best time to make some money.
  15. Agreed. Offseason isn't over, in fact it's just starting. My concern isn't whether or not they're trying to make a move because the consistent theme in all the reports I've heard is that they're out there talking to everyone and trying to make something happen. That's great, but is there actually a good deal out there? I have no idea. Sounds like teams want to take everything including your first born child for sorta-stars and Trajan doesn't seem willing to play ball on that level. Not sure I can blame him, but from our perspective as fans it would suck to see nothing impactful happen if teams doesn't come down off of their demands. And yea, I'm still concerned about the Duren dollars as well.
  16. Is it though? My heart says it's a blow because I loved having Stew as well and some of his shot blocks were just insanely awesome, but my head is not so sure. Dude is rarely healthy, only plays about 50 games a year, is always a threat to give the other team a momentum shifting Flagrant Foul or get suspended, and has been insignificant or injured in the playoffs both years. On top of that, when he does play he barely cracks 20 mpg because his knees look like they're about to crumble into dust. I love his toughness, but 15M a year for all that and you start to realize why it probably made sense to move him.
  17. I'd take Brown over at least half that list.
  18. A perfect example of two things being true.
  19. By that logic, Jalen Duren is a great playoff performer since he played so many minutes in the postseason. And apparently so is your favorite player, Tobias Harris. Let's not forget Duncan Robinson. All perfectly suited for the playoffs. After all, they got a ton of minutes, so that must be it! ...or maybe OKC picked up Jared McCain and wanted to bet on him when Joe was struggling with his shot this playoffs (after shooting 41% the previous two playoffs, including the championship season).
  20. Totally agree he didn't run the PnR much. But he has a nice handle and when he does it, he does it well. On a team like OKC, they didn't need ask him to do it more. Maybe he will here and maybe there's some untapped potential because the signs are good. He's also a really good pull up and step-back shooter with massive range, truly one of the elite shooters in the game, so it depends on what you mean by "go out and get a bucket." Either way, unless you're talking about superstars who deserve to be ball hogs, iso play isn't a key attribute for me in a player. As for Powell, I think he's being highly overrated. I just don't see why Powell is considered a big move for a "starter". It feels so much more like narrative than reality. You put Isaiah Joe in the same starter role with the same number of opportunities and he's essentially the same player, except 6 years younger, on 1/3 of the contract, and not sitting on the bench injured. I'm out here defending him like he's my favorite player. He's not. However, I do think it's a solid move to add a shooter and I'm happy they decided to go after this need by using a couple of seconds to get 80-90% of those other guys that would have cost you way more in assets+dollars. Now you can spend your assets+dollars on something more important like a PF or some 3 and D. Those things can't be had cheaply while these types of scorers can. Smart move.
  21. Another thing to add is he isn't Powell or Herro. He's getting paid 11M, is 26 years old, and plays 70+ games. Herro is getting 33M, is always injured, and will want an extension. Powell and Joe have very comparable per numbers, meanwhile Powell is 33 years old, often injured, and is going to get paid 25M. This was a much smarter move than going after one of those two (I'm saying this hoping they aren't still trying to get one of them).
  22. Yea, I just don't agree with saying Robinson is better based upon that sample size and using +/-. If you look at the per 36M or per 100P numbers, Joe is slightly better in most categories including 3P%, FT%, #FTs, Rebounding, Steals, Turnovers, Fouls, Pts, Ortg, and Drtg. Most differences are slight, but that's a lot of slight increases. He also has a much better handle, didn't turn the ball over, and scored 1.24 pts per possession as the pick and roll ball handler (98th percentile). And finally, he's 6 years younger and on a cheaper contract. He's a great replacement for that 6th man spot that was a total failure last year (Lavert). The move only cost 2 seconds and it gives you even more freedom if you have to move Robinson and his tradable contract as part of another deal.
  23. I’ll say this about the trade for Joe, it’s exactly what I was talking about when I said you could get 80 percent of what a guy like Herro or Powell can give you for very cheap. Hopefully we can get away from the Herro/Powell rumors now because we have bigger needs (PF, 3 and D players).
  24. I got pretty excited for a minute when I saw the S&T report, my mind fantasizing about a Jaylen Brown or TMIII trade...then reality set in and I realized this was just a typical Agent leak and it only means they're going to wind up giving him even more money.
  25. Most teams play their starters more in the playoffs, so I'm not surprised Joe's minutes got cut in half on that team. But I do agree that his defense/size probably played a role as well, especially in the playoffs when your weakest link gets exploited. My biggest desire for this offseason was 3 and D players. I like the Joe move, and he fills a need, but we're still sitting here with JB having to decide offense or defense with every single rotation decision. Offseason is just getting started, so we'll see where we end up, but it's a lot harder to go deep in the playoffs with players who can't compete on both ends. Regular season will be fine as long as you have Cade and Ausar.
