Exactly. This was the Harris/Hinch stated strategy. They would have liked to have done it last year were it not for the 800-pound gorilla.

there was a Baseball prospectus article about DH rest day arent that helpful that playing the field most of the time isnt really that more taxing, you would be better off with a full time DH and giving players actual days off .... Its a pay article I heard other people talk about it

Don’t look now, but Mean Tweets has his batting average up to .289.  No extra base power yet, but not worried.

    Keep the cleats, kid.

I may roll my eyes at you but if it gets you going then whatever... the no one believes us stuff always cracks me up

I'm not sure Monroe knows what he's talking about. Backups are by assignment - Colt went where he was supposed to. You don't make it up on the fly and there is no way Colt can know where a missed throw is going before it's missed.

yeah it didnt make sense to me to have 2 guys back up 1st

Here’s why Benetti is not doing today’s game:

Here’s the thing, though: look up where you can watch the Michigan Spring Game and you will be read that it is on FOX. However, you won’t find it on FOX 2, you won’t find it on the FOX TV network, you won’t find it on FS1, you won’t find it on FS2, and there is no Fox Sports Detroit. So, if college football exhibition games in April are your bag, then good luck finding it, I guess.

your local FOX station sucks I guess ... it was on in Northern Michigan

Another series I am way behind on, but started watching the Wire last night.  2 episodes in and I really enjoy it like I knew I would.  I have heard such good things about the show.  I wish it was based in Detroit, but other than that I like it alot.

have you watched Justified that did a season (City Primeval) based in Detroit

Pretty sure I heard he hardly ever touches a baseball in the off-season, so this wouldn’t be new or unknown among baseball insiders.

He makes sense for them because he can throw 150 innings and, outside of Skubal, who do they have that can reasonably be expected to do so this season?

    thats August and Septembers problem

and the worst take away is having to consider what to do with what is looking like like a $24M bad signing. Dirks noted that Kenta always starts poorly, but that's no comfort when your division is winnable and you are losing games in which you score 7.

He never made sense for me on this team......this team seems full of rah-rah guys who are trying to do everything to get better  before the season and Kenta coming into said he hadnt touched a ball in the offseason... he just seems like old vet who's gonna do what he always does which doesnt really fit with this pitching lab team

I may be confusing this with another player, but IIRC, they 'nicked' a nerve doing Bonderman's surgery. It can take a couple of years for nerves to grow back all the way down your arm, assuming they even will, which they don't necessarily. In the meantime Bonderman got tired of the rehab merry-go-round when he preferred to be fishing.

I kind of lost track of him when the Tigers bacame good he seemed to get pushed to wayside in my own mind

Bonderman was one of the first, if not the first, to have the thoracic outlet syndrome.  I wonder how much of that might have factored into his decision to retire early.

I wonder how much playing through the pandemic might have adjusted some guys' priorities.  I only bring that up because I looked at Rendon's stats.  His fall off occurred after the 2020 season.  Maybe the fall off is independent of COVID.  Maybe the timing is just coincidence.  Maybe he changed and that change affected his performance.

ERod had a heart issue when he played with Boston maybe that changed things for him

especially that draft. As per BR, Spencer has out homered anyone else from that 1st (or 2nd) round by a factor of 2x+. Jordan Walker, who went 21st, and was called up last year, has 16 with StL. A couple of the pitchers are doing OK, but not much in the way of hitters from the top of the 2020 draft.

could be that is was a poor draft year and someone had to be the first pick

they put a graphic up today that showed the Tigers rank near the bottom swinging at the 1st pitch.

When you are a bad offense, you should think about what being an outlier in any offensive category is telling you.

make me wonder if they are over thinking it  or maybe they are loading the guys up with too much info... you want someone tell them to go out there just play like its little league
