  1. Ugh, ignored posts still show up in quotes... That Malone guy was not "THE" inventor of mRNA. He was part of a team involved in its discovery in the 80's and it was tabled for a long time because there were safety issues. There was a breakthrough 15 or so years ago that did away with those safety issues. Besides, we have how many billion doses of mRNA vaccines out administered now? People would be dropping like flies by now, right?
  2. Vaccine would have taken longer though. This isn't me praising warp speed or Trump. It's just that RCT's take longer when there is less virus.
  3. I do think that percent positive tests is a better indication of recent spread in an area right now that case counts. There are certainly a lot of people in bluer areas who took precautionary tests before visiting family.
  4. I'm going back in time because I ended up down a rabbithole today of pseudoscience claims of Freakonomics. Yada Yada Yada was listening to back catalogue of Levitt's podcast and he had some questionable people on that got me poking around. Dubner's association with Dr. Oz is troubling at best, discrediting of the entire enterprise at worst.
  5. No twitter timeline is an indication of anything other than one's bubble.
  6. Observation Media seems very quick to criticize restaurants eg. for being open and gathering people. Hell, I am. But when their access gets revoked in the name of safety protocols they cry bloody murder.
  7. Quoted posts showing up are breakthroughs?
  8. Will the variants just get milder over time? The mild ones would seem to be the ones that have a better chance of surviving and mutating. Is that what happened to the flu after 1918?
  9. I will say, ignoring took a bit of work. May I suggest a link on people's posts to do it straight from there? Perhaps that nudge can get people to stop flame wars sooner.
  10. I thought they were, but I underestimated the reach of antivax brainwashers.
  11. I've never seen so many links to dubious websites.
  12. It's one poll. If they have a senate or house race with one poll, that poll isn't going to override their model's priors. This is like saying JaCoby Jones can hit because he went 3/4 one day.
  13. Based on a glance at Tristan's twitter, not very.
  14. So that Penn swimmer breaking records...
  15. Is he? Or is he just using Bayseian reasoning? One poll is not going to go away from a very confident prior.
  16. I agree with Nate. Full disclosure, I usually do.
  17. One poll from a thinktank does not a public opinion make. 1. Publication bias. "Data for progress" isn't going to publish something that doesn't fit their narrative. 2. Response bias. The bulk of West Virginians aren't going to answer a poll from "Data for progress."
  18. I'm not saying I've done a 180, but seeing left wing histrionics over vaccinated people living life has me perturbed.
  19. Annual* (except last year) extended family gathering is in Michigan this weekend. I'm flying up. About 70% of the attendees live in Michigan... I'd say about 15 adults and 5 kids under 3. We haven't thought twice about it. All the adults are vaccinated, and presumably boosted.
  20. Most important thing is fluoride.
  21. How To With John Wilson is back. The most recent episode is very interesting.
  22. I just learned this week Dick Monfort is who the owners have as lead negotiator. The labor strife makes sense.
  23. No way they miss games, but both sides seem to have their heels dug in.
  24. Do people not know to not use their bright lights when there is oncoming traffic nor when tailgating?
  25. What is funny is the most infamous example of a person getting away with murder of the last 30 years is black. Makes me think money is the key more than race. Speaking of, did anybody check OJ's Twitter to see if he had any thoughts about the verdict?
