Headed out the door... it was something I passively saw on my timeline and surprised it came from the Atlantic. Might have just been a bad headline. I think it was the Sheerer piece a month or so ago at a glance.

If only we could use AI to repurpose Pepe Lepieu episodes into Trump...

They also did a giant puff peace on RFK a couple weeks ago that gave me pause on a possible subscription.

Fun fact about Jansen is he is a lifelong close friend of an old intramural teammate of mine.
-
So... Jansen being a borderline HOF-er (seriously, a bit easier for relievers to get in) has me thinking: who are the most likely 2026 Tigers to be hall of famers? I'd say: 1. Skubal 2. Jansen 3. McGonigle 4. Greene?

This assumes the Florida Democratic Party doesn't trip over themselves.

Not in the same boat (but who the hell knows?). It bugs me a bit (Severance) but I also understand the scheduling challenges these days. Not a full time job for these people, and they have to have schedules aligned. It's the price for quality.

Lee coming at this like a data scientist, and it is interesting to read through that lens. I just think the "who acquired the player" criterion ignores a big part of the equation, but that other part is a little less objective so I can see null hypotheses not being disproven...

Chris Shelton was not a Randy Smith acquisition.

There was a good article in Wapo on this topic a couple weeks ago I've been meaning to dig up and post in here... Basically, there are ways to effectively use it for Health Care. https://wapo.st/44rq0LQ

I wonder about the timeline of when his wife started tracking him on the phone. Is this a long standing thing? If so, how was he able to hide this affair? If recent, did something prompt it?

That leak to Auerbach reeks of somebody being frustrated that Manuel is safe.

The draft lottery has really changed the incentive structure around tanking. The value of draft picks is pretty high at the top of the draft, but the worst teams are not guaranteed to get those picks, and also get blocked out of the lottery if they win too often. The math has changed for the better.

I am curious if Rockies Rule 5 pitchers have a lower likelihood of sticking. It seems like the altitude would force a few more pitching emergencies and roster moves increasing the likelihood of a crunch.

I thought it was Sartori who headed that up. Menzin was largely out of the analytics side by the time Avila was in charge.

I like this. Make GOP go on the record defending antivaxism. Won't go anywhere til 2027, just in time for Hep B and Polio to make their comebacks.

But did he fully empower him, or hamper him with old school edicts/keeping staff in place to "balance things."

It's pretty clear based on industry consensus from myriad articles that the Tigers were way behind on Player Dev at a time it was really taking off in the industry. The turnaround started when Garko took over for Littlefield, and went into overdrive when Harris took over.
-
Also saying who was GM at the time they were drafted completely ignores the most important part of credit: how they were developed. You can be a great grocery shopper, but the food is going to suck if you aren't a good cook. In this analogy, Avila was slow to learn how to cook and had Dave Littlefield as the chef and he was searing with non-stick and being careless with raw meat, but bought some nifty appliances he didn't know how to use at the end. They brought in Harris who knew how to use them and was able to make some banger meals.

Doesn't look like Finnegan and Anderson are official in the transactions logs, so I guess the Tigers could technically participate in the Major League phase today. I also wonder if the reason they have been slow to jump in the minor league free agent market including some of the nontenders I thought would be quickly re-signed is that they were having a hard time protecting players from the minor league phase or wanted to keep some roster space available to be very active in that phase.

Molly Knight, who was fired from the Athletic for going overboard on Bauer coverage... She's lost some journalistic credibility, but is probably right here.
