No. He can still be traded in DFA Limbo. He goes through waivers and other teams have a chance to claim him. Whether acquired by trade or by waiver claim, the Rule 5 restrictions apply. If he clears waivers, the Cubs can't outright him to the minors without first offering him to the Tigers for $50k. Given the Tigers cut a AAA position player yesterday, i have a feeling they are optimistic they may be getting him back. If he returns to the Tigers, he has no such restrictions.
