  1. @Tiger337's favorite pole vaulter getting a workout in in Full Swing..
  2. I mean, the same is true for me in the first paragraph, but the fractured family and social circles are something I would pay all that money to amend.
  3. I got a text from a colleague on March 16 reaming me for telling an employee of his who shared a supervisor with me that we were good to go home. You will never believe that colleague's vaccination status.
  4. I will say life was better for us March 6, 2020. That answer will change if you move forward a couple weeks.
  5. Two of his last three... Kris Anglin is out of baseball after being acquired for Grossman.
  6. Actually, @chasfh I'm having a hard time interpreting this. "Actual Club Payroll" is effectively the CBT payroll. Actually, now that I re-read... Cash considerations in lieu of a PTBNL if announced that way counts toward the CBT. Trades like Lipcius (or Leonard) do not.
  7. I don't know in that regard, but when it comes to the CBT, cash exchanged in deals only counts when it is covering salaries, not being used to effectively purchase the player.
  8. I had meetings all afternoon. What did people think of Benetti? And was he able to get more out of Monroe?
  9. It reminds me of Norm MacDonald's joke about cancer. You don't beat cancer or lose your battle with cancer. At worst it is a tie. As with COVID, the strong mutations of the virus died with the people it killed, or their symptoms were so severe they quarantined. As it evolved, the minor variants that are out there, that people may be more likely to spread by being out in public, effectively act as vaccines.
  10. I hate to bring back the term covidiot, but I will... The victory lap they are taking in light of the updated CDC guidance is definitely something. No, they weren't right all along. Our immunity has strengthened, and the virus has evolved to become weaker.
  11. Ah, I was wrong... Just double checked the CBA. The Tigers, assuming they remain a revenue sharing payee, would not lose international cap space.
  12. I misremembered that. For some reason I thought he went over slot. He did get more than Mayer, though there's no guarantees Mayer would have signed for his number. The 2021 draft hasn't produced a big leaguer yet, but it has been a pretty impressive crop rising through the ranks. I believe that Mike Rothenberg (retired) is the only player who has been cut. Holub was traded for Canha.
  13. Also $500,000 in international cap space. You may scoff at that, but look at the prospect the Tigers just got from the Padres for that amount of space (they forfeited double that to sign Bogaerts last year and needed to trade away prospects to be able to sign the guys they had verbals with). With the Tigers apparently playing in the top of the market with their rumored agreement, it is possible that $500K could loom large.
  14. You all got on me when I pushed back against the crazies on the left being clueless, too 😀
  15. A lot of this assumes that Mayer would have signed with the Tigers at the price he signed with Boston, or that Langford would have signed with the Tigers at the Rangers' price. And in the case if Langford, that the rest of the draft would have fit in place with less pool money to work with. In the case of Mayer, given the Tigers' player dev reputation pre-Garko, it is entirely possible he wanted nothing to do with us and floated a huge number to scare us off him. Not only is it possible, it is likely. There is a reason Harris is really trumpeting player development successes. A strong player dev reputation helps you in putting a draft together in the draft pool era, when you may not have to pay a premium to get players.
  16. My only request is to maybe wait a few years to come to that conclusion, and to also factor in the rest of the draft made possible by going under slot at #3 overall. Also, it is possible Langford raised his price for the Tigers.
  17. I remember one he had when he was the Rangers' guy, and the Tigers had Fu Te Ni. "The knights who say Fu Te Ni"
  18. There's multiple accusers, and one still pending. My understanding from my glance through things yesterday is that the Bauer camp has tried to keep MLB's investigation under wraps. I do suspect whatever MLB uncovered was damning enough to make the severe suspension hold and scare all 30 teams away from him. I also suspect Dan has seen what is in that report, or has been made aware by people in the know what was in it. Meanwhile, we are left wading through muddy waters from partial media, making it tough to find anything close to the truth. Asking the fan to read up when the exact information Dan put out there really isn't out in the public isn't exactly fair, but the way the caller kept going toward the end, you could tell he only ate up the Bauer camp's story using terms like "blackballed." It's tough to separate fact from spin these days, very tough.
  19. Kirk Gibson was the manager in Arizona when Bauer was run off. He is probably somebody Dan talks to a bunch, and does have a special assistant title. He probably knows some of his issues. I really did just post because it was interesting to hear Dickerson, who usually isn't a hot take artist, come down hard on the issue. In my quick googling, it looked to me like the judge denied a few of Bauer's requests, and the suits by both parties were dropped. There has been a lot of gaslighting from Bauer and his camp that has permeated certain corners of the internet, though. I also don't approve of Dan's use of mentally ill as a pejorative I got a kick out of the suggestion from a baseball standpoint, suggesting to go spend money on a starter when you are already looking at demoting one of Mize or Manning to start the year.
  20. Jason had a lot of zingers last night. After Hummel was citing points per possession, one of Purdue's guys made a three. "That was three points per possession."
  21. I've got the "bench+3B" as Kelly, Vierling, McKinstry, Ibanez, Urshela. Some of the RHB will spell Meadows, Keith, Carpenter, Greene. One man's MLB/AAA position players. I just bumped Jung down to Erie, but do think he's in Toledo eventually. I suspect Hopkins is the 40 man move.
  22. Fan: Is there a chance they can add somebody like Trevor Bauer? Dan: (interrupting) No on Trevor Bauer. I hope he never gets a chance to play in this league again. Maybe you have another idea, but not Trevor Bauer. Fan: Didn't he get found not guilty? Dan: No, he found a judge who gave him an unbelievably favorable ruling that defied all logic and law. Fan: I thought there was audio tap... Dan: (interrupting) He has serious mental health issues and does not belong in Major League Baseball. Find somebody else because it's not going to be Trevor Bauer. Fan: So he's going to be blackballed. No, I don't have anybody else, he was the guy. I think the guy was framed. Dan: You need to read up on it more. Fan: Wasn't the girl admitting she was scamming Trevor Bauer? Dan: No Caputo: Your basing it on... Bauer on social media thing... He's got an agent who's a very smart person. They've been putting spin on it.. (further rambling backing Dan and smoothing the edges) Dan: Nobody should sign this guy. He basically admitted in court what he did. He found a judge who said because she didn't specifically say she was unconscious that he couldn't do what he did because she didn't say that which is found nowhere in law. That's why he did not face the consequences he should have. That's the guy they want back in the league?
  23. Does anybody listen to Tiger Talk? It comes on my podcast feed every now and then... Dan Dickerson napalmed Trevor Bauer this week. I've never heard him go so negative about anybody.
